  3. Had to set up another twitter for professional reasons so....yeah. There's that.
  4. Thank you for this response! I have a lot to think about. the fellowship is external and the website states that past winners come from Brown, Dartmouth, Emory, MIT, Princeton, Cal and others. This fellowship does take into consideration your financial need--they ask for your financial aid records and income tax information.
  5. Hello So, I am in the process of applying for a fellowship for next school year and the application states that fellowships will only be awarded to candidates who have outstanding undergraduate records. I'm not exactly sure what that means...especially since they didn't specify a specific gpa. I am definitely in high need financially and my undergraduate gpa is only a 3.3...I go to a really renowned school and I don't want to discourage myself from thinking I am not good enough but I also don't want to waste my time. Has anyone else had any experiences with this?
  6. Also, If I were to go into International Affairs or Academia, would an Ivy League background benefit me?
  7. Exactly! I know both programs are interdisciplinary so it would afford me the unique opportunity to take classes and connect with professors in other disciplines. The professors at both schools are really good and I have been able to identify professors/faculty that fulfill my research interests. Perhaps Columbia has a better/wider network and resource that I can tap into--being that it is a private school This is really a tough decision!
  8. This is true! Living elsewhere but went to undergrad in NorCal/originally from LA.
  9. I Believe it depends on the person as well. Majority of folks have mentioned that the quality of the program is more important to them and they wouldnt mind being in loads of debt ( they see it as a large investment lol). Other half believes that costs should be a major consideration and it all depends on what YOU can accomplish in your program.
  10. I am instate. Columbia is twice as much and I do want to pursue my PhD! As for loans---I know its inevitable for many MA programs in the humanities so I have made peace with that. If I can find a way to ease my burden, great. If not, I am prepared for that as well. I know for sure I would have to get into a fully funded program for my Doctorate, no compromising there.
  11. I would be taking out loans for both schools soooo....it would be based on that
  12. The deadline is this Monday I was just accepted into Columbia's AfAm MA Program. I now have to decide between UCLA's Afro-AM and Columbia's MA Program. I spoke to some recent grads at both schools and they pretty much said that they had a good experience at their prospective school blah blah. I have not been able to secure funding for either so I that would not be an issue as far as making a decision based on that. I like both programs but I feel I still have a problem choosing one over the other. I know UCLA is cheaper than Columbia, however it would not make that big of a difference for me if Columbia's program is Amazing! I also know that Columbia is ranked 5th while UCLA is 10th in terms of this field. Has anyone heard anything about these programs. Please Share!!
  13. True! I should hear soon...and if not I have to think even harder...A lot of people have tried to sway my decision into picking Columbia because it is an Ivy league and NYU because it "seems" to be more well known. I'm trying to be smarter than that lol
  14. I think they pretty much are around the same costs ( especially with the funding).
  15. Hello Good people. I have been trying to decide among these schools for a while. I have been accepted into an Ethnic studies program at all of them and am having a hard time deciding. Funding: Syracuse has given me some funding, I am still waiting to hear from UCLA and NYU and Columbia have given me none ( not looking to good for them). I live on the Westcoast so moving to New York would be very expensive on top of the expenses for these schools. What to do? And is it okay to tell the1st two schools that I have been accepted to the remaining schools ( to increase my chance of funding)? Sound off

USC is nowhere near Compton! HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAH Omg
  17. Yesss The last two sentences explains it well---nice analogy to HR. This puts my mind at rest (for now).
  18. I have been invited via email for a Skype pre admission interview. They asked me to pick 3 choices out of 9 possible choices ( each time slot 15 minutes). I was not aware that the MA program I applied to even participated in interviews. Has anyone had any experience with this? Do you think I have a pretty good shot?
  19. I hardly hear about Master programs conducting interviews before admission notifications. Has anyone experienced this at all? Gracias in advance
