  1. Y'all know what goes with HGSE D-Day so well? This timeless classic: lmao It's sooooooo baaaaaaaaddddd...
  2. This dude doesn't listen to much music nowadays (no iPod, no music downloading, etc.). So...when I find something I like, I tend to play it every time I'm in the mood for music. That being said, I listened to Birdy (young female artist from the UK) when I wrote my SoP for Penn & HGSE. I also listened to her when I got into Penn. ^ Probably my favorite song of hers. I'll listen to her regardless of the outcome, though.
  3. ...guess I'm trying to go ahead and get a head start on that gif thread...
  4. This made me LMAO because I was in the middle of guzzling down a cup of 2/3 coffee with 1/3 french vanilla creme, brought to you by International Delight. Remember! It's not a cup of coffee without International Delight...
  5. Speaking of clothes once more... I hope that the time I've spent looking at Harvard apparel won't be all for naught!
  6. Oh wow! Thailand and India. I wish I had the opportunity to do that! Maybe next year for me and my fiancee's honeymoon? Muahahaha. I wish. Speaking of places to visit, I'd love to see Dubai one day. That place looks straight out of a Sci-Fi movie...and I'm not talking the crap ones on the SyFy channel, LOL. I totally know how you feel about Vandy & HGSE, though. I'm in the same boat, but my "girlfriend #2" is Penn instead of Vandy. Wakka, wakka, wakka. In two days, we'll both know (hopefully)!
  7. Yeah, I thought Gokhale might be the same as Smith here in the States! I just wanted to take a poke at it because those "small world" moments are cool when they occur! To answer your questions, though: AP = Advanced Placement, which is a designation for advanced classes here in the U.S. that are affiliated with an organization called College Board. It's the same association that makes the SAT. And nah, I've never been to Pune. Speaking with "Gokhale Ma'am," as one of her students called her, is the closest I've been to Pune! But, FWIW, I'm doing a semester-long project for International Marketing where our target country is India for our product/store.
  8. Oh wow. Didn't notice that you were from Pune until just now. Did you ever happen to have a teacher by the last name of Gokhale (first name started with a K)? Just wondering because I know a K. Gokhale! She was a teacher from India that visited my AP U.S. History class for a week or two back in 2007.
  9. 70 degrees? Jezeus Christé! I'm in Alabama and even we got a little snowfall today (not a blanket, by any means, but a little sprinkle of snow). And yeah...finding the scholarships probably take longer than actually doing the essays for them!
  10. Haha. Trust me, you're not the only one! Speaking of a graduate wardrobe...LOL... I love v-neck sweaters, but I need to add to my collection (~10 of 'em). Outside of that, I have one suit and a couple of button-downs. Pretty bad for a business major, eh? I'm in my senior year of undergrad and I dress like IDGAF. LMAO. On the days I have class, I typically a raggedy t-shirt under a zip-up hoody, along with a hat. I haven't even been putting my contacts in the last month or so. Just rollin' with my Coke-bottle glasses. #hobostatus
  11. Hopefully the smiley face came through... Hahaha
  12. Thought I'd share some of the french toast I made this morning with my GradCafers! lololol nom nom nom nom nom!
  13. For you sports enthusiasts, Harvard is playing Princeton right now on ESPN U. w00t
  14. I say, come decision day, we turn this into a gif thread by posting gifs to express our feelings regarding the decision. And, if I happen to be rejected, I'll try to be the first reject that posts a gif (like the one below) to effectively say, "Yeah, I got rejected. But it's still a good day because I can muster a laugh!" I'm sure many rejects won't be posting, but seeing hilarious gifs expressing y'all's jubilation would make me feel better considering we've all developed some kind of mutual, GradCafer bond. lol. I just plan on it being a happy day, regardless of what decision comes my way. I'll just be thankful to finally know if I'll be in Philly or Boston!!! Good lawd. I hate not knowing, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FoWnIhDuW4g'?
  15. I wonder if they have a needing-eye dog, though. lol LAME But "lame" is okay in my book. You know, the international best seller...
  16. Ouch. I definitely know how the long distance thing is. My fiancee, who is a current sophomore in college, will be transferring with me up to Philly or Boston - whichever I wind up in. But, two and three years ago when she was a junior and senior in HS, I was a freshman and sophomore in college. We were only 1.5 hours apart, but it still sucked not seeing her for a whole week.
  17. If an admission decision link exists (from a past applicant on here, *hint* *hint*), then perhaps we can change the # within the URL to the pin code we were given when we originally made our accounts. If that pin code now represents our student identification #, then maybe we could see our decision if it's already logged into the system. I HIGHLY doubt it would work since the pin code is deemed to be "temporary." But, I will say that we did something very similar for the ACT a few years ago and it actually worked; that is, we were able to see our scores before we were technically able to. Regardless of whether it works or not, we'd be doing HGSE a favor by testing for bugs. lolololol P.S. Another # we could try in addition to the pin # is the "reference #" that's atop our application page. It, too, is a 9 digit # (this is the one Hodges is referring to in post #348).
  18. Exactly! I occasionally feel that way, too. Whether it's finding a tiny grammatical error, misspelling, or just a better way to word something, reviewing an already submitted essay is sometimes like looking in the mirror - the longer you look, the more flaws you find!
  19. Haha. Glad to know I'm the only one.
  20. Whoops! LOL I think the reason I keep going back to mine is because I have confidence in it and consider it the thing that'll get me in (if I get in). My overall GRE is slightly below average, so that's what worries me. I'm just hoping that my GPA (3.94 overall; 4.0 major) + SoP make up for my less-than-stellar GRE (154/154/4.5). I also have the age thing working against me, as I'm 21, still a Senior in undergrad, and obviously have no "real" work experience.
  21. Am I the only one that's reread his/her SoP an incalculable times since submitting the app?
  22. OMG. See, "cold" temperature on its own is not bad. But cold + wind = BRUTAL. Same thing applies when talking "hot" vs. "hot + humid." I *think* I prefer cold weather to hot weather, but this Alabamian might have a change of heart after experiencing a real Boston winter (I visited in January, but it was a mild winter).
  23. You get high marks in all things GradCafe, imo.
  24. Oopsy. My bad. I feel dumb. I misread your post and now realize you were talking about the accepted student's day. Shame on me! I guess "ii WUZ KiiND4 CL0S3 D03." lololol
  25. People heard back March 6th last year, which was a Tuesday. (post #201; our "homie," PhDreams) The year before that, they heard back on March 8th...which was also a Tuesday. (post #98) U WUZ KiiND4 CL0S3 D03. lol I should've written my entire SoP to Harvard like that. #automaticacceptance
