  1. Just received word that I didn't get it. Good luck to the rest of you!
  2. You won't be drinking alone! I only applied for the DAAD scholarship and am hoping to study German Linguistics at a master's level. I feel like waiting to find out is stopping me from being productive with getting all of my university application materials together. At this point, I would just like to know one way or the other. Give it to me straight, Doc! This being stuck in limbo nonsense is not for me...
  3. Same!
  4. It's going to be a long weekend of waiting, waiting, waiting...
  5. that's great! congratulations!
  6. Haven't heard anything yet. Only received word a couple of months ago that they got all of my application materials and that I could be expected to be informed about decisions around the end of March or early April. Totally nervous! Ich druecke euch die Daumen!
  7. Are you applying for the independent study or the master's program? If you're beginning a master's program, you don't need to be in contact with a German institution. And the description for the independent study only says that it would be a great advantage "if" you could prove you were already in contact or had attempted contact with a German institution. So, I say either way you have a shot. Maybe see if an undergraduate prof. has any contacts you could use.
  8. Dan128ed, Thanks for the advice! I think that is what I'll do. The application is for Germany and it only needs to be two pages long. That is why I was so confused by the term "study proposal" -- that's a pretty short proposal. As far as your research proposal is concerned, I'm sure you've already looked at this pdf: http://ic.daad.de/accra/download/How_to_write_a_research_proposal.pdf but in it they state "if" you have a supervisor and "if" you have a time table, include them. For this reason I think you're right in giving a generic overview of what you accomplished as a master's student and what you hope to accomplish in the future. At the same time, having an academic tone and loading the proposal up with previous research and a literary review would only help you. Have you emailed DAAD to ask them? Best of luck!
  9. PinkUnicorn, Thanks so much for the response! Hearing what you included in your proposal puts my mind at ease. Have a great year and thanks again!
  10. Hello DAAD scholarship alumni! I'm not sure if anyone is still following this thread, but I though I'd give it a shot. I'm preparing my documents for the DAAD Study Scholarship for the winter semester in 2013 and I hope to get into a German Master's program. I'm writing because I'm a little bit confused by the term "study proposal" used in the application guidelines. On the DAAD website the instructions state that... Applicants for Master's programs should have a study proposal explaining why a particular program has been chosen and how it will further the applicant's educational and career goals. The proposal should be no more than two pages in length, double spaced. Your name should appear on each page. From what I understand, a study proposal is a research proposal. But, this "study proposal" sounds dangerously close to a "statement of purpose" or a narrative on one's personal background and interests. I have been trying to find examples of past study proposals, but have only been able to find examples for the "independent study" section of the application (the five-page research proposals). I was wondering, do any of you who applied for a Master's program have any suggestions/tips for how to write the study proposal? I want to make sure that I am approaching this two-page paper correctly. Do you have any advice as to what to include? Should I include my educational and career goals plus a research question, literary reviews, etc. (like a research proposal)? Or does including my educational and career goals as well as why I am interested in pursuing a Master's degree at that particular university suffice? Just nervous that I'm tackling this proposal incorrectly... Thank you!
