I was wondering if you could tell me how to check my application status on the University of Iowa's admissions page for the English department

Is the Emory news confirmed? I am an international applicant, do they send interview invites to International applicants as well?

I am an International applicant and needed some feedback and opinions regarding the English Program at Claremont Graduate University. How would you rate it? Are there any applicants on this forum who are applying there?

If you don't mind my asking...which University was this? I'm an international student too and just want to make sure I haven't missed out on sending the correct documents where they are needed and thereby screwed up my chances.

Hello everyone....I know this problem is a little specific in nature as it pertains to just one University, but I would appreciate any kind of help. I'd like some suggestions as to how you guys are tackling the statement #2 which states the following: a statement that identifies the distinctive qualities,qualities,characteristics, and life experiences you would contribute to your graduate program and to the education of fellow students at the University of Minnesota. You may wish to include examples that address your contribution to the diversity of the student body and illustrate your motivation to succeed by setting high standards for accomplishing intellectual and other goals, overcoming obstacles to achievement, and/or helping others to gain access to the resources necessary for success. I have included some of the experiences which have prepared me for graduate study in my SOP and don't know if repeating them here would be effective. As far as diversity is concerned, how does one address that? what examples really are they lookingI'd be grateful if someone can give me some pointers or just their opinions regarding this issue. Thanks a ton in advance.

I have a query regarding length of the sample.....the programs I am mostly applying for ask for the length of the writing sample to be between 15 and 25 pages. Are the pages on Endnotes and Works Cited also a part of this or will they be counted as separate?

Hi, I'm an international applicant and appeared for my GRE today. I got V 160, Q 150 . That's a 83percentile on the verbal.I want to apply to schools like Wisconsin-Mdison, UT Austin, UC Irvine, Illinois Urbana-Champaign etc....Is this score a competitive one for a Phd in English applicant? Please help with some insight...thanks to all those who will in advance ...P.S.: My TOEFL score is 113, if that helps

Thank you everyone....reading this gives me much more hope than I had after reading my GRE scores yesterday. I had high fever while giving the exam and all of that but of course none of that matters anymore. @ImWantHazPhD yeah I am working now on my SoP and writing sample. I know those are the two most crucial elements in my profile and after bombing my GRE I'm taking no chances. Unfortunately retaking the test is out of the option as that would make me miss most of my deadlines . I still have to take my subject GRE which is scheduled on Nov.10 ,so just hoping to do well on that. @rems, @Stately Plump, @asleepawake Thank you so much for the positive feedback. I keep telling myself that GRE isn't everything but then funding is an issue and an 83 percentile might mess that up *sigh*...I'll just send off the applications and hope for the best @Rachael2687 Congratulations on getting such a stellar AWA score! I'm applying to Minnesota as well . I'm yet to receive my AWA scores, hope they are decent. All the best for the applications .

Hi, I have my GRE General test on 16th october and so far all of the mock exams I have been giving calculate my GRE Verbal score to be in the 86th percentile while my Quant score is in the 60th percentile. Is this a good enough score for an English Ph.D applicant? I am applying to like Wisconsin-Madison, UT Austin, UVA, Ohio State etc. I'd be grateful for any kind of advice...would love some insight...Thanks a ton

Can someone tell me if 2 months are sufficient to conquer this insurmountable exam? My test is in November and I started my preparations late. I cannot reschedule since the exam is held once a year in my country. I have the Princeton Review cracking the subject test book with me. Any other hints/suggestions/useful method and tools of study are most welcome.

Hi, I'm an international applicant (India) to the U.S. for a Phd in English Literature. My research interests are postcolonialism, postmodernism and gender studies. I am currently pursuing an M.Phil degree ( post M.A.research degree offered in India and European countries) in English. My tentative list looks like this: UC Irvine University of Virginia (UVA) UT-Austin University of Wisconsin-Madison Washington University in St. Louis (WUSTL) UIUC Tufts U of Minnesota,Twin Cities I have contacted some of the faculty at these universities and their programs seem a good fit for my interests. My GPA is about 3.89. I am worried about funding though since I have heard that International applicants get very less by way of scholarships or T.A.s/G.A.s. Moreover, I know the above are all competitive schools and departments and thus the worry factor is higher. Can someone please help with some advice if they can?
