http://www.nsfgrfp.org is down, clearly this means something and we should all get our hopes up.
-
A new update--this one's even more dismal!
-
You at least get a press conference on your behalf if you catch swine flu.
-
I'm pretty sure it's been up since this previous Monday.
-
I sent an email at 2:30 and didn't get a reply after two hours. I got fairly nervous, so I just resent the same email and ended up getting a reply within 5 minutes. Luckily, I'm officially in limbo. So yeah, assuming that you sent it some reasonable time before 6pm Eastern (this is when their offices close, I think?) then maybe just go ahead and send them another one for the morning.

I got into every college and grad school I applied to and ended up marrying the first girl I ever seriously considered having a long term relationship with. This whole rejection thing is new for me

7 billion.. that's like.. 50,000 more awards!
-
Maybe she meant they hadn't broken down the ones remaining into additional categories?
-
99%? Do you really think that the NSF would go through this much time, money and effort just to give an extra 5-10 people an award? I'm not saying that we aren't all going to get an HM, but if the NSF didn't have some good reason to believe that they would dole out additional rewards, then why wouldn't they just go ahead and cut the cord now?
-
15 years from now, people's CVs will say "2009 NSF GRFP Recipient - 1st Round" On a similar note: Do any of you guys feel that if you did end up getting the actual award after the limbo phase, that you'd sort of feel inadequate on the inside? I'm banking on an HM on this point I guess, but if I did get the award I don't think I'd be as happy about it as I would a "first round" pick. Granted, I'm not doing it for the money--more for the self-validation aspect of it all. I guess that would explain how I feel.

I think my heart rate would go up to like 200bpm if I made that phone call. I think I'll just take the slow route and wait so that I may prevent an aneurysm.
-
As an aside, I've found chemists to be pretty non-elitist. There's lots of highly regarded work from professors at lower ranked schools. They get grants, they get awards, they get invited to seminars at highly ranked schools, etc. As mentioned earlier though, I'm pretty naive still.
-
This is pretty good info. Thanks!
-
Yeah, anal chem already has 5 winners. There were 5 last year and 3 the year before. Even with a 30% funding increase, they might award an additional one or two at the most. This doesn't bode well at all.
-
You just had to capitalize that word, didn't you! My hope just went back down the toilet after temporarily reappearing from the sewer of broken dreams
-
Sorry to all the people posting rejections It makes me sad... I'll probably be joining you soon Anyways, to those of you just now posting that you got a rejection--did you just get these, or had they been in your email since the first wave (~1:30am) and you just hadn't seen them yet?
-
The list has expanded from ~700 to 950 since I woke up about 38 minutes ago.
-
I really don't see why anyone would register a domain name just to include a line that isn't actually even necessary in constructing a fake email. Maybe I'm just naive.
-
at some point, one has to use some self-discretion regarding the number of gifs they should post in a single day anyway, didn't someone say that all of the notifications for the past few years were issue at 9am? Or was that just last year? I've kind of given up hope on today too
-
I was going to post that there has been a surprising lack of fakeposts about award notifications considering that all of us are so desperate (and will believe anything) It's all been ruined now!
-
Last year people who won (and only those who won I think) got notifications online (at the nsfgrfp site) before any emails were actually sent out.

I go to class for three hours and there's 10 more pages when I return! I started hyperventilating for a second Also, I didn't think my smarmy self-entitled prick comment would have such a lasting impact! The whole conversation the guy posted had this "brilliant intellectual NSF applicant vs. lowly call-center swine" feel to it. At least one other person confirmed this.. therefore it's definitely true. I'm a nice dood though Maybe I just jumped the gun, but my panties totally get in a jumble when people talk down to call center employees--a clear indicator of how nice of a dude I am!!

Is this the first day that no one here has called or did I just miss the post!
