Ah I see. If it's just the dinner beforehand on the day you're flying, I think it's totally fine to fly out that day.

Generally the interviews are all-day affairs. I can't imagine you being able to make it on-time if you flew in the day of the interview. I would suggest going the the afternoon/evening before. That also helps if there are delays or other nightmare scenarios that might pop-up.

I'm so curious to know if the UCLA social psych invites are still rolling out or if they're all done. If anyone has insight, I'd much appreciate if you would share it. If you got an invite and are willing to PM me your POIs, that would be greatly appreciated as well!

Thank you for the info! Congrats on getting the interview there, I hope it went well for you. Wasn't sure if I'd hear from them since I never clarified with my POIs if they were accepting but I'm glad to know where they are on their timeline now.

That's exactly what I did as well! Which is part of why I only applied to 4 schools.

I can definitely understand that. When I was first applying, I made a spreadsheet and ranked POIs based on how much I would want to work with them. From there I only applied to schools that included at least one with the highest ranking. It turned out that none of the single person schools ranked high enough to warrant my application.

From most posts here and at sdn, it seems to me that a lot of people only apply for one POI at their schools of choice... I'm curious if that was the case for all your programs or if you put down mulitlple POIs. I personally only applied to schools where I had at least two POIs. So what'd you do? Also, what are the advantages/disadvantages to applying to one vs. multiple POIs per school?

I found this to be very cool; I wish profs from all psych fields could put out something like this.
