  1. Hey, They give up to 5,016 per year for the 2013-2014 semester, and it's need based only. If your EFC is lower than 10,000 you qualify for some aid. You can call and speak to the financial aid office for specific details regarding your personal situation. I actually went and visited the school, and the financial aid assistant I spoke with told me I will get the full 5,016$ so that was a big help.
  2. For NYU it was both financial and the lack of help/response from the school. With Fordham, they always answer their phone, reply quickly to emails, and follow up immediately offering as much help as needed. It showed a sense of caring for each individual student. At NYU I was ignored numerous times, made me feel like I was just a number with a dollar sign.
  3. Yeah, I totally understand that. I only applied to 3 schools, and only 1 awarded fin aid. NYU doesn't ever answer their emails and I can't ever get a straight answer from anyone there, they seem so careless, ill get a reply once and be ignored after that with subsequent emails etc., so I gave up with them and it made my decisions a lot easier.
  4. Hey all, Figured it might be time to make a post for final decisions! :-) Not sure if I'm a bit early, but for all of those who know where your going, post your final decision :-) As for me, I'll be registering for classes at Fordham in May!
  5. I just visited Fordham again to pay my deposit and send in feild placement forms/resumes.. I spoke to the financial aid office, and the advisor approved me for 5,016$ per year based on my FAFSA EFC. I think an efc under 10,000 and they give this standard amount, enough for 6 credits I think it is. I did the math, and Fordham (with the 5,016 per year) ends up being about 10,000$ cheaper than NYU with the fees included in both and an 8,000$ per year scholorship applied toward the NYU estimate. $10,000 extra doesn't seem justifiable, especially when that 10,000$ is going to be charged interest!! So I'm like 99% sure that I'm going to Fordham! The staff at Fordham were extremely helpful and nice. Registration starts in May and I'm excited, and totally nervous! Good luck to all still waiting, and congrats to those who got accepted already! Anyone else with final decisions?
  6. yup, even though its presidents day! haha. just received it at 7:12! I applied early September, but the application didn't say complete until Dec. 19. (After I sent in my resume)
  7. I just got my acceptance letter from Fordham! :-) I'm pretty sure I'm going to choose this school although I paid NYU my deposit, Fordham is cheaper, and yet still very prestigious. I was also happy when I visited the school; the program seemed to be great, and the staff were always very helpful when I would call etc. Any one else choosing Fordham? I hope they offer some sort of financial assistance. Any thoughts? NYU hasn't even offered me any scholarship money which I thought to be very strange seeing as I had a near perfect GPA, (3.98) and years of experience, but what can you do. I'm excited! I received word from all the schools I applied, got into 3/3 and feel very accomplished! Good luck to everyone still awaiting decisions!
  8. I dont think they will think anything of it. It's totally normal to inquire regarding applications and see whats going on, or where they are with application reviewing/decisions. I wouldn't worry about it.
  9. I am anxiously checking the Fordham VIP page every hour!! Did NYU offer you a scholarship? Which school is your #1 preference? Good luck!!!!
  10. I was also wondering this in terms of where I stood against other applicants. I have volunteered at a big mental health angency in NY for about a year and a half for those who were mentally ill. I also volunteered at my local hospital in the emergency department for about 7 months. I've thought that this was significant experience, but I'm not a 100% sure what admissions commitees really consider to be significant. I'm sure each school differs, I know some schools that don't mind if you don't have any, as long as you've worked somewhere that can vouch for your skills. Some schools I'm sure want to see years in a social work setting. I graduate this semester from undergrad.
  11. Hey all, I just got my acceptance letter from Adelphi university. They were really fast, I completed my application about only 3 weeks ago! I haven't heard from fordham yet though, and I got my acceptance from nyu about a month and half ago. Nether school has mentioned financial aid, getting nervous!! Anyone know when registering and stuff happens? I'm still torn between which school I want to go if I get into fordham as well. Hmm. Good luck to everyone still awaiting acceptances!!
  12. did you fill out the FAFSA form. just wondering because I haven't received any information about scholarships/fin aid yet, but I also haven't done fafsa yet so I'm hoping thats why!
  13. I just got my acceptance to NYU yesterday, still waiting to hear from Fordham. They only give two weeks to pay the 200$ deposit, so I'm going to pay that because Fordham hasn't even processed my application yet! Will probably end up choosing Fordham if I get in, because in the end it'll be cheaper, but still not 100% sure where I want to go.. hmmm.. i guess i'm thinking too far ahead because I haven't gotten into Fordham yet anyway.
  14. you can go to their application site, log in like you did when you applied, and a page will come up letting you know everything they received and haven't.
  15. I really hope they have the same outlook as you do!! I have already applied to NYU and Fordham, and they just have my past semesters grades, I'm not sure if I'll get a decision before sending in another transcript, after this semester is over, once I do send in this semesters transcript with the grades, it'll also include what I'm taking next semester. ahh- so stressful.
  16. thanks Paige- The course thankfully isn't in my major, it is a sociology class though, special topics all about Greek's. I didn't know that prior to when I signed up to it; the midterm is just killer. I just hope they don't think that I've totally slacked off after I applied, which will hurt my chances of getting in.
  17. ok so here is my problem.. throughout my undergraduate studies, I have managed to maintain over a 3.9 GPA. I've volunteered in a social service agency for over a year now, and was a emergency room volunteer for 6 months. this current semester I'm having a tough time with my classes, and might have to drop one, resulting in a W. I'm really nervous with how that will look the semester i applied to schools, and if I get accepted on a conditioned acceptance until I graduate, when they see this will they deny me? I'm probably going to end up with somewhere near a 3.3 gpa this semester( a significant drop from my usual grades, and also a W) .. any advice, or something to calm my worries? am I worrying for nothing? next semester I will be taking 19 credits to make up from the 3 I will be dropping this semester. I just don't want the schools to think I slacked off after i applied, will they? I already applied to 3 schools, and I'm going to send them another transcript after this semester when its over. I just have had very bad luck with my classes this semester [ applied for fall 2013- expected graduation May 2013]
  18. Did you graduate already from undergrad already, or are you a senior?
  19. When is everyone applying? I know deadlines aren't until at least January (for NYU atleast) but I want to apply as early as possible. I'm still in undergrad, I will graduate May 2013 (hopefully!!) so I'm not sure how much they care about a year of in progress transcript, anyone know? I'm applying to Fordham and NYU. Thanks!
