Has anyone here been offered an interview for an Editorial Assistant position? I have an interview next week for this position with a very prestigious journal. I am so nervous!
-
Thanks! Yep... baby was 3 months preemie, so I finished my thesis while she was in the NICU. She's 5 months old now, so thankfully I'll have the summer to just 'relax'... this will be my first summer in 8 years that I have NO SCHOOL! It is crazy! I'm going to try to publish parts of my thesis and work on scholarship apps. $$ is a beautiful, much-needed thing in grad school, as I'm sure you and most of the people on here know, lol. I've only been to Ottawa once? twice...maybe? I know I was there when I was 7, which was 18 years ago... I just remember the accordian-like buses. My hubby has lived there before. We're going to go check out the campus once my TA duties this year are done.

I think the scholarship is based on grades. My masters GPA according to Carleton's 12 point scale is 11. Hopefully I can keep it up in the 85% range going into a PhD. I'll definitely be looking for a RA job too. Pretty sure we're moving! Going to try and pay off as many bills as we possibly can!

Here's my offer: 4yrs TA 4yrs scholarship 1 entrance scholarship ...I'm wait-listed for OGS. Someone decline lol Gotta figure out overall $$ before my hubby, baby and I make the move to Ottawa. I know people would kill to be in my position for acceptance, so I should just shut up and thank my lucky stars I got in!

Congratulations!!!

For those who applied for masters at Carleton... I don't think it is suit that professors call you to tell you your in. From what I understand, they only call for PhD acceptances. Maybe I'm wrong, and it's all department based - I am only going by my experience right now. I haven't received an official acceptance yet, just a phone call. Keep thinking positive thoughts! Good luck!

damn... in the financial handbook, it states: PLEASE NOTE: If you are a recipient of an external award/ scholarship, your scholarship could be reduced by up to 50 per cent of the value of your external award/scholarship. I'll see how my offer looks when I get it!! Hopefully no clawbacks!
-
Re: clawback of funding from Carleton - REALLY!? Where'd you hear that? I was just reading the Graduate Handbook and it doesn't mention anything about that (not that I expect it would, lol)... but it does say those who were successful with external funding (SSHRC/OGS) are also eligible for internal funding. TAs are 10g and RAs are anywhere up to 20g (based on contract)... plus internal awards based on GPA. If you don't mind me asking, what is your GPA according to Carleton's 12pt scale? Mine is 11. The clawback thing will definitely give me something to think about.

Are you willing to contact the department? What does your status say? I heard from Carleton (PhD Legal Studies), but by fluke, IMO - I rarely check my voicemail, and I had a message from a professor congratulating me. Other than that, my status still says "review in progress by department"... ...funny thing - I was so excited, and in my routine with what I do with voicemail messages (deleting them)... I accidentally deleted it! I can't even remember his name I was so shocked! He said he'd call back though in a few days in case I couldn't contact him... so I'm keeping my phone fully charged and in service areas! [i'm actually embarrassed to admit that, but I'm sure I'm not the first person to do that... lol] The wait for my official offer is killing me now... that's what I want to see! Good luck WhyPhD!

Congratulations! Glad people are getting good news!

I regret wasting 50$ on my Memorial Application - what a crock! I don't like their application process for the Interdisciplinary Studies PhD.
-
@maximusbrutus - congrats on the OGS email! I don't want to get ahead of myself, but... I don't think awards would ask every applicant for their SIN so I'm taking this as a good sign! We find out for sure Monday! The weekend better fly by! lol

Thanks everyone! I am so excited! I will let you know what the offer ensues, if anything! (I'm hoping there's SOMETHING! lol) Good luck to all those applying! Think positive thoughts!

So by fluke I checked my cell voice mail (I hardly ever use the extra feature that students get)... Anyways... there was a phone call, from a 613 area code... a professor congratulating me! I got into Carleton!!! Yahooooo!!! I am just waiting to see the offer, but I am overjoyed right now! Yessssss!!!!!
