  1. MIT and UNC rejections are fairly par for the course, apparently. How many schools did you apply to? Yale, Harvard, Arizona, MIT and UNC are all extremely (!) competitive programs.
  2. I'm pretty sure the same person uses two accounts, kennysoshy and zombie4life. That is why he/she apologized for saying: "MIT doled out rejections alphabetically so maybe that's the cause for the delay" from a different account than the one used to say that comment. In other news, my results so far: 1a/1w/8r -- yes, that's right, 8 rejections! The rejections are all from pretty top tier schools, and I have an offer from a great school (top 20) but even so, it is ridiculously competitive out there.
  3. *Correction from my earlier post: There's a 'Waitlist by solicited email' for Connecticut, from today (Feb 21st). Can anyone claim that? Thanks.
  4. I notice there's a 'Wiatlist by solicited email' posting in the results page -- could anyone claim that, and provide any details as to what you were told in the email? Thanks in advance!
  5. Okay thanks. I'm currently 3rd out of 26 on the waitlist.
  6. Can anyone claim one of the 5 (five) initial offers from Colorado Boulder? Cheers.
  7. Can anyone claim one of the UBC acceptances? And if so, could you explain what the details of the offer were? Thanks. And, for that matter, anyone claiming the Brown acceptances (though I'm assuming no single person received more than one offer of admission)?
  8. Sending transcripts: $30 Application fee: $75 GRE study books: $120 GRE registration fees (x2): $350 One solitary word, 'Denied', on the web site, with no email or generic note: Priceless. There are some things money (and grad students) can't buy. For everything else, there's mastercard.
  9. I think U Madison has a tendency to use a very long wait list, judging from the pattern found in previous years' results. As for Colorado, I've heard nothing. All I see is that one lone acceptance with the note saying that Colorado (a very good school but not breaking top 20 on the Gourmet report) accepted 4 out of 240 applications. That is about a 1.6% acceptance rate. If this is true, then it is absolutely mind boggling. You'd expect this acceptance rate from NYU.
  10. My status still says 'Pending' for U Wisconsin -- I'm assuming this means I'm on the Wait List?
  11. I'm hiding my jealousy really well, aren't I? I emailed JC Beall and he basically said that it's still early so I just need to sit tight for now. What was your writing sample on/what areas do you specialize in?
  12. Oh ok -- very surprising that you were only offered one year of funding! It says on the program web site that they guarantee at least four years of full funding.
  13. Ah ok well congrats! The most recent Connecticut acceptance posted is from someone with a 3.53 GPA, and GRE score of 155 V, 154 Q and 5.0 AW.
  14. I was very surprised to see that two offers from Connecticut have already been reported on the results page. Could anyone claim either of those?
  15. Don't give up yet! There are plenty of schools on your list which have yet to send out acceptances -- most of them, in fact. And my top pick schools (and the schools at which I've been in contact with a member of the faculty) won't be giving out acceptances til late Feb/early March. Hang in there bud!
  16. 'And another one bites the dust...' Well actually this is my first rejection, but it still sucks, even though Northwestern is nowhere near my top pick.
  17. Hi all. Here are the PhD programs I applied to (all Philosophy): Princeton, Pitt, Michigan Ann Arbor, Oxford, Cornell, UNC Chapel Hill, CUNY, Carnegie Mellon, Wisconsin Madison, Ohio State, Colorado Boulder, U of Pennsylvania, Rochester, Connecticut, UBC, Maryland, Brown, Rice, Austin Texas, Illinois Chicago, Mass Amherst, and Northwestern. I've not yet heard results from any of them. I'm finishing up my MA at a Canadian University with a good philosophy department. -Graduate GPA: 3.9 -GRE: 164 Verbal; 156 Quantitative; 5.5 Analytical -Areas of interest: Philosophy of logic, history of philosophy, epistemology, metaphysics. -MA thesis is on the semantic paradoxes (and so was my writing sample). -Teaching experience as a TA for four different courses over the past two years -In the process of trying to get a paper published in good journal -In contact with a few profs from different departments I'to which I'm applying. -Oh, and I enjoy long walks on the beach while waxing philosophical. And obviously anxiously waiting to hear any results from my applications!
