My discipline had a nearly identical number of awards given so far this year as compared to last year. But somebody did call a couple weeks ago, and the rep said that additional awards were being given across all disciplines.
-
I feel lost now. All the budgets are released, there is no more information to try and dig up. All there is left to do is...wait (and refresh, of course).
-
Oh it was. Right around midday. I don't know for how long because I was so distracted by compulsively refreshing things that I had to remove myself from my desk. But it was there, bright and shiny.
-
I was really optimistic it would until they switched back the message on Fastlane. Now I just don't know.
-
If it follows the same path as April 10, Fastlane will go down and stay down for about 30 minutes. Then, the site will come back up with the list/parts of the list updated. Emails will go out around the same time over the course of several minutes. This is all assuming everything happens the same way...
-
I have never clicked refresh so many times in my life...
-
I think 3000 posts is another excellent goal to consider.
-
I will trust this once there is an email sitting in my inbox... Or once the awardee list updates. Neither has happened.
-
Whenever I read this forum for too long, I get wistful songs from musicals stuck in my head. Mostly it's "Tomorrow" from Annie, and "Somewhere over the Rainbow." Pretty awesome, I know.
-
I figure either: Something terrible happened and the list is still not finalized. OR They really are putting up the list and don't want to make it so obvious.
-
Um... also, does everyone else no longer see the message about scheduled maintenance tonight?
-
The first list went up on April 10 right around 1 a.m. EDT. So, that'd be about 10 p.m. for everyone on the West coast. The site went down and stayed down about 30 minutes prior to that.
-
You never know... "GRFP will be unavailable from 11:00 PM ET Thursday, May 14th - 2:00 AM ET Friday, May 15th for scheduled maintenance. We apologize for any inconvenience."

Press release from today regarding FY2010 budget: http://www.nsf.gov/news/news_summ.jsp?c ... &from=news "Graduate Research Fellowship Program. The prestigious program is the flagship for the federal government in supporting advanced education in a broad array of science and engineering disciplines as well as international research activity. To launch the Presidential initiative of tripling the number of new fellowships awarded annually by FY 2013, the request supports 1,654 new Fellowships in FY 2010."

Caffeination! (I figured I'd make this landmark post while drinking my morning coffee.)
-
I can't even begin to describe the number of dreams I have had about this stupid fellowship over the past 1.5 months. I don't know why because, honestly, it doesn't matter much for me at all in terms of grad school path. But I still wants it...bad. Hekog, your dream sounds intriguing. Please do follow up. Must get to 200 pages...

And for all the rest of the crazy NSF stalkers out there: http://www.nsf.gov/nsb/meetings/2009/0513/csb.jsp

Sounds like the budget details will only come out after the National Science Board meeting wraps tomorrow (at the earliest). Otherwise, the only new info in those posts was that the GRFP numbers won't actually triple for a couple more years. So I suppose that is a bit of sad news for the non-second years amongst us. Other than that, we still know just as much as we did before (ie. close to nothing).
-
To summarize what I remember from previous forum pages: The GRFP is definitely getting some stimulus money, but the funding is NOT being tripled this year. It is, however, being tripled for FY2010 based on Obama's new budget. So basically, if you can apply again next year, you are in luck. There was a pretty lengthy discussion about this topic some pages back. As for the additional awards this year, it is still unclear how much extra money there is, but it seems like it is coming from multiple sources. There is no concrete "real" number anywhere on the web as of right now.

The above poster is right. The same thing happened to me when I went to the webpage, but when I hit refresh it updated to "approximately one week."
-
Also, I love the dramatic upswing in the number of guests browsing the forum this week.
-
I find the change to "approximately one week" extremely comforting. Especially when combined with the approved budget! The end may actually be in sight this time. Finally. I just want to move on with my life.

For some reason, against all logic, I actually believe them this time. It all just seems more official. Or maybe I'm just going crazy... I miss FriarTuck and Blackbeard.
