  1. I've been another one of those lurkers who got into a program for this year but still receive email updates, and I wasn't going to come on or comment until I saw the threat start to mention ageism. For what it is worth, friends on both ends of the spectrum, I got into a top program in NYC and I am in my mid-forties, and several of my classmates are under 25. I do think that, in the end, it's about the quality of your writing sample, at least for school admissions. After that, we're in another ballgame I suppose. Anyway, good luck, all.
  2. Hello friends. Longwalktonever, I don't know if I have you to thank but I got the call from the lovely people at NYU this week and am absolutely thrilled to be off the wait list and headed to Tisch. Congrats to you too, Miranda, you've been at this a long time and glad you are in a strong program. Hope we'll all meet as colleagues one day.
  3. Just taking a stab at resurrecting this forum. Is anyone listening? If so this might be a nice place to hang out together.
  4. @EccentricDreamer: cannot tell you how happy I am to hear your good news. Hooray! Hope you get to make lots of good things happen in LA. For those of us who are waitlisted at Tisch, I thought this forum might be interesting. It's a subforum under "Waiting it Out" called "Waitlist at Tisch." It's stale but seems like a good time to resurrect it? I am thrilled to be on the list but scared about funding and timing issues, and I expect I am not the only one.
  5. Hi Alraune, No idea if you'll get this as this thread seems dead, but I am currently on the waitlist for fall 2013 and your post gave me hope about funding. I wonder what program you were accepted to and what you decided to do? If you get this I would appreciate any info. Thanks!
  6. Just found out I got wait listed at Tisch. Very happy at this good news but have no idea what the odds are of getting off the list! Longwalktonever, the verdict is in: you are a playwright to watch! By the way, I hear USC is a wonderful program
  7. Failsafe, thanks for your amazing post. Great stuff.
  8. USC rejection received today via email. Nice letter, very kind. Three down, three to go! Come on, Tisch!
  9. No word from Tisch.
  10. Classy letter from Eric Ehn. That they only accepted 2 people makes me feel a ton better. When you get down to that small a statistical sample, it is clear how totally NOT about our abilities the process can be. Albee vs. O'Neill....hmmm...can we talk Letts vs. Kushner?
  11. I feel terrible saying this, but it does feel better knowing I'm not the only one! But I was the first Next is NYU I suppose?
  12. Okay, someone must have gotten into Brown. Don't be shy...let us know! As for me I knew it was a longshot. My writing couldn't be further from what they appear to be looking for either, lurkinglucy. Two down, four to go...
  13. Ditto, tjack.
  14. According to the survey page of acceptances and rejections, it looks like last year Brown sent out rejections on February 28, which is, of course, tomorrow. Is anyone enjoying this :-? Congrats to all you finalists! Here's hoping we all get some good news in the next week or two.
  15. WOW! Way to go, TEETH! That's terrific. How were you notified?
  16. So glad the thread is getting active...I guess 'tis the season. Congrats on the interview, Teeth. And thanks for posting that link, Dreamer! I had seen that page but had forgotten about it. Judging from that list, it looks like Brown may be the next school making its early decisions. My contribution to the reading list follows. I have to say I am a believer in experiencing a play in performance before you judge its worth. I think, for example, that August: Osage County plays better than it reads, which can be said of a lot of great plays. Of course I saw the original Broadway/Steppenwolf cast which didn't hurt AT ALL; in lesser hands that might not prove true. Anyhow... Angels in America, Tony Kushner An Enemy of the People, Henrik Ibsen Travesties, Tom Stoppard Betrayal, Harold Pinter True West, Sam Shepard Doubt, John Patrick Shanley Candida, George Bernard Shaw King Lear, William Shakespeare Death of a Salesman, Arthur Miller Long Day's Journey Into Night, Eugene O'Neill
  17. Hey LurkingLucy, I got the same email a couple of hours ago. I am also assuming everyone that applied got it, but could be wrong. Anyone else?
  18. Programs without funding are not an option for me, and adding significantly more student loan debt is equally impossible for me. The good news is that I have teaching experience and would not mind carrying some teaching load while working on my MFA, so hopefully that will help. All of the programs I am applying to have *some* funding.
  19. Nothing from Brown yet. NYU/Tisch's website says "notifications" happen in "Mid-March."
  20. So glad to see the activity ramping up on the board! And also glad and grateful for posts like this one that are more about info and self-care, and less about stressing out (not that there's anything wrong with that
  21. Sorry about Michener, friends. I almost wish I had applied there so I would at least have one school's decision under my belt, good or bad. Anyway, chins up all, it is very early yet. More posts please! And if anyone has any info about where the schools are in the process or where they typically are this time of year, please share.
  22. Congratulations, TEETH!
  23. Good to hear it, Longwalk! It was an arduous application but the staff made it easier for sure.
  24. Just in the interest of putting some positive energy out there, I want to say something nice about the staff at USC, who have been nothing but friendly and accommodating through the process so far. Also, there isn't much traffic on here lately...is anyone out there?
  25. Hi Misssharai, Where are you applying? Are you finding one aspect more overwhelming than the other? Many of the deadlines are already gone or coming up on us fast, so I figure that like me you are in the middle of the storm right now. And I am doing all this while traveling in Europe! Hope all's going well.
