I was assigned one when I applied, and told to check it regularly.

Grad school is a magical place where my predominate personality flaws are turned into virtues.

I told my family and close friends right away but waited over a month to tell my in-laws. It was really hard because there was no way of explaining to my MIL what a PhD means -- all she gleaned from the conversation was that I was dragging her son across the country for more school. She tries really hard to be supportive but she has no idea what I do for a living. After trying to explain countless times what I meant when I talked about defending my MA thesis, I gave up and talked about buying a new outfit for the defense instead
After we told the in-laws, I made a FB status announcing that I'd accepted a place in X University's English PhD program. Since then, I've had a lot of people making snarky remarks about how I'll be going another 4-5 years without an income. I secretly love it, because then I get to tell them about my 6-figure funding package and bask in the awkward silence.

Received word from SGS that I've been awarded a fellowship for 4 years. Still no letter here on the east coast.

These past few days have felt longer than the previous 6 months of waiting on SSHRC. If I end up having to go through this process again next year, I'm staying away from Gradcafe! (lol jk, I'll be back).
-
Congrats to all those who received good news today! And solidarity for those who will be striving to keep our sanity over the weekend. We are so close.
-
I was a little too optimistic to think the SSHRC announcement yesterday would allow me to focus on my work. Even though there's really no way the letter can be in US before Monday, I'm just as distracted and unfocused today as I was earlier this week. I need to get it together because I have comps on Tuesday
Ugh I have a paper due monday but zero ability to focus

Does it seem to anyone that departments are notifying only successful applicants? Do departments notify rejected/waitlisted applicants as well?
I hope not. That would be a really jerky thing to do.

I, too, feel like throwing up! I wish I didn't know about this forum (or Twitter) and could wait patiently in a healthy manner. I'm resisting emailing my department unless I don't hear anything by Monday. I won OGS, but my heart is really with SSHRC. This wait is incredibly challenging.
The only other person in my department in the running for doctoral sshrc "doesn't really care because he already has funding." What. I'm grateful for the internet because now I can assure myself that HE is the crazy one, not me.

I feel like it would help my sanity to keep track of what schools have notified people - it seems like UVic, Waterloo, Queen's, anywhere else? (As far as I know, my school of graduate studies hasn't notified people yet, but I'm still freaking out, as I sure everyone else is.)
Based on twitter it looks like UCalgary too

Congrats pbaid and surefire! I wish that my school would put us out of our misery.
-
Congrats bentharbour!
I just found out that the graduate awards assistant, who normally sends out sshrc-related e-mails, is out on vacation this week. Now I'm feeling pretty certain that I'll be waiting for a letter.
-
Based on twitter it looks like UVic students have been notified. Bastards.
...I mean, congrats UVic award winners

The user's only other post is in the nserc master's thread, so I think the info pertains to the cgs-m competition

Sounds fishy to me.

So I was wrong. Apparently every Storyteller gets tweeted multiple times today.
-
Only one more Storyteller announcement left for today, and then maybe we'll hear something.
-
you might have best luck here: fellowships@sshrc-crsh.gc.ca
Oops, I meant an internal announcement. We already know that SSHRC doesn't send e-mails.
-
I have a 20 page paper to write by Friday, along with tons of cleaning and packing to do, but all I can do is hit refresh every 2 minutes. You could say I'm "SSHRC"-ing my responsibilities!
-
So is there a general consensus about asking our department administrators about results (when SSHRC announces they have been mailed)?
Do all have access to the information, but only some willing to disclose? Is it hit or miss?
Anything to pass the time...
I think I'm going to e-mail the scholarship & awards assistant for SGS once letters have been sent. I doubt she'll give out results early, but she'll at least be able to tell me whether I can expect to receive an e-mail announcement at some point.
-
Whether the letters get mailed Tues or Fri, I probably won't be hearing anything until next week. Best of luck to all!
Moving, starting school...breaking up?

Yup. My (soon to be ex?) husband played that game with me for months.
