FutureResearcher Posted January 23, 2018 Posted January 23, 2018 Hi All! I received an email stating that there will be a group interview of applicants. I am wondering do any of you have this experience? And do you mind sharing some advice? Thank you so much!
kitcassidance Posted January 23, 2018 Posted January 23, 2018 Hi! One of my interviews also has a group interview portion. I'm not exactly sure how this works for grad school, but I've done group interviews in the past for other field-related positions. I've seen it go two ways: 1) There is limited time and space, so one interviewer asks the same questions of each applicant, and you answer the same questions in front of one another. 2) You're assigned to a group and given a "problem solving" vignette. This is largely to see how you work within a group, can you think critically, can you collaborate, are you able to show leadership skills without stepping on someone else's toes, etc. This could be something entirely different as well hah! But I'm planning on preparing for the group interview in the same way I'm prepping for one on one interviews. Know the program, know the research, and know my own application (major difference in prepping for the group interview may be practicing expressing these ideas in a shorter amount of time! I saw someone say prep your "self-story" and a piece of your research in 1 min, 2 min, 5 min, and 10 min timeframes) Good luck! FutureResearcher 1
