Hi, all. After more than 2-month waiting, I finally received a decision letter saying that I'm in with 3K funding for one year. But I'll probably turn it down due to their dead silence during the whole admission process.

Sorry to hear that, but congratulations on your admission! Many of my schools (WWS) were also completely silent during the admissions process. I've noticed that schools have very different approaches to transparency about progress.

That's true, but Cornell ignored all my calls and emails which made me really annoyed. Anyway, I just payed deposit for JHU SAIS:D. Good luck to everyone!!

Sorry to hear that. They should have been more accommodating or at least said they couldn't respond.

I was just about to go to bed and your post got me all excited. Still no decision letter here and 3K for a year? That's nothing. Wow.

I'm five hours ahead, so nothing yet. I promise to share :)

I got nothing, are they going to let us know today or what? I did see them post a new status about the open house on Facebook and I'm running out of patience. This is crappy.

Just got back from the Open House - did anyone else attend? Thoughts?

I would really like to hear any thoughts you feel like sharing on the open house. Was it an interesting cohort? What did you learn about the program? About the support? What was your overall impression about the personal elements/interactions of the staff academic and otherwise (this is so hard to gauge online, but has such an impact on the experience).

Thanks in advance!

Sorry for the late response! But happy to answer any questions about the Open House! @LibbyCreek

I did attend the Open House and really enjoyed it. The small class size was ideal to get to know people on a personal level and the interdisciplinary nature of the program allows students to craft a program that aligns with specific interest issues. I also appreciated how accessible the professors are and how willing they are to provide assistance. The alumni panel provided me with snapshots to what life at CIPA could look like that included all of the abroad/immersion opportunities, policy challenges and opportunities to connect around research. What I got from the program is that because the program is so small and can be embedded into the various other professional school programs there's an opportunity to be a big fish in a small pond that typically doesn't happen in larger programs. What I mean by that is at larger schools like Columbia you'll be competing with 400+ students for opportunities in comparison to competing with 75 students - there are more opportunities to do/have access to opportunities. I will also point out the opportunities to spend semesters in DC, NYC, Rome and other places that have been helpful for students to get year round internship and networking experiences that major cities have. What really impressed me was how accessible Tom, the Executive Director, is in answering questions and connecting me alum. I would suggest looking at LinkedIn for alum in your interest area and/or reach out to him to provide a better snapshot of post-CIPA statistics. At the end of the day for me it's about transitioning into a career that I want to and not taking on a lot of debt to do so. I think you'll have to decide what is most important to you.
