Did anyone else receive an email from Montclair today?  It talked about how they made an initial review on my application and because the program so competitive, "qualified" applications are reviewed by faculty committee and I can expect a decision no later than April 20th.  Does this mean I made it to the second round and people were rejected? Should I be excited? Or do they just send it to everyone?

I also received this email today! I thought it was worded strangely, but after reading it over twice I think it is a good sign. It sounds like the initial review was conducted and anyone who received the email is moving onto the second round of reviews (which is conducted by the faculty committee).

Hi all -

I don't have a 3.0 GPA in undergrad (although I have my masters in a different field and have a 3.98 GPA there) so I asked someone at the grad school about the admissions process and have copied and pasted their response.   I'm wondering if you all meet the admission requirements as stated below as I received the same email as you and was hoping they passed me through because of my 3.98 in Grad School.

The Admission Committee considers all things, however, because you don't have the 3.0 in the undergraduate degree, your application will be considered as having two out of the three requirements (two GRE scores, if you get them) but missing the GPA score.  Your application will be held back by The Graduate School until we have reviewed all of those with the 3 out of 3 requirements.

Thanks!
Cristina

Hi! I am sort of in the same boat as you right now in terms of GPA and other stats. Have you heard a decision from Montclair yet? I am just trying to get a sense of when they may be sending out some more acceptances or rejections, etc. Thanks, and good luck!

I haven't heard anything!!  I called them on Monday and she said that some rejections have gone out so it's a good sign that I didn't get rejected yet and they are still considering my application but that's all she could tell me and couldn't tell me when I'd hear more.  She also said it usually takes 4-6 weeks for the department to make a decision once they have your application but she said they had my application on 2/9 and 6 weeks is technically today so I guess that's not true :).  I am so stressed out because my husband has a job offer on the table and whether he takes it or not all depends on if I am starting school in the fall so this waiting is really torture lol.  Hope this helps and good luck to you too!
