Rumor has it that they have notified all wait-listed and accepted applicants...but I'm crossing my fingers that's not the case!
straightshooting Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 (edited) Though obviously not definitive, this entry in the results search leads me to believe that all decisions have been made: Ohio State UniversityEnglish (Language And Literature) - Accepted via E-mail on 27 Feb 2010 - To the person asking if I am an internal or external applicant: I'm external. They may still be sending out notifications, as I received mine at 5pm EST yesterday. Since this person heard on the 27th, we can be fairly certain that the offer wasn't for a fellowship.

I've been wondering the same thing, I am an external, non-fellowship applicant and haven't heard anything (still "acadreview" on status check). Yeah, I wondered about that too, but I ask because that's the only one that's not internal that I've seen, aside from the wave of fellowship recipients in February. And surely there would be more than just the one? I just don't know and I'm impatient!

I'm in the same boat and hoping, desperately, for a last-minute acceptance. FWIW, did you hear the rumor about all wait-listed and accepted applicants having already been notified here on Grad Cafe, veronica, or is that something that comes from OSU itself? I feel like I should start preparing myself in earnest for the imminent rejection...

woolfie Posted March 2, 2010 Author Posted March 2, 2010 Someone had posted that all acceptances/wait-listers had likely been notified on the Rhet/Comp admit thread...! Hmm, do you think that Rhet comp might be different then the literature program? I heard from an internal phd that he thought they still had non-fellowships to get back to... but I'm not sure if he was sure.
woolfie Posted March 2, 2010 Author Posted March 2, 2010 Also, guys, there is an entry for last year for March 20th, an acceptance with a note saying he/she thought he/she was out of the running and completely surprised. And since their apps were up by something like 25%, I think I'm choosing to believe that we still have a chance.
straightshooting Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 Alright, kids, here's the word: First, rhetoric and composition decisions are made at the same time as literature. Second, all decisions have been made. Third, all internal candidates have been notified of their decision one way or the other. Fourth, all of the fellowship recipients have been notified (for some time now). Fifth, some, but not all, of the external non-fellowship (TA-ship) students have been notified. Sixth, the external wait list students have yet to be notified. Seventh, everyone should know if they have been accepted or wait listed in the very near future. Hold on. Chill Out. HOW LONG IS THE VERY NEAR FUTURE??? Just kidding. Not really, though. This school is my top choice and I already live in Columbus and know people in the program so I am just being so impatient about this decision. I really need some distraction, cept Scrabble doesn't work on my work computer woolfie 1
Phoebe Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 OSU is my first choice, although I am definitely panicking and have given up hope of being admitted. Thank you, Straightshooter, for posting this information -- you have no idea how much I appreciate knowing that not all external, non-fellowship applicants have been admitted. I am planning on contacting the program tomorrow to find out my status. Has anyone else thought about doing the same thing. Why wait? I'm sick of feeling disempowered by the wait-game. I'd rather just know.
gracieb Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 Does anyone know if any MA applicants have been contacted yet? I'm holding on to the hope that maybe they haven't gotten to us yet...
straightshooting Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 (edited) gracieb, OSU no longer has an MA program, as such. Beginning this year, all admitted students enter into a direct PhD-track program. Yes, the website still calls it an MA program in the sense that students must first complete an MA prior to beginning the PhD, but I was told that some students' statements of purpose made it clear that they wanted to complete an MA without advancing to the PhD. Such students, naturally, were not admitted. In any case, those external applicants coming from an undergraduate program (and, thus, into the MA portion of the PhD track) are in the same boat, notification-wise, as the rest of the external non-fellowship applicants. At least as of the other day, not all students had been notified. Does anyone know if any MA applicants for OSU have been contacted yet? I'm holding on to the hope that maybe they haven't gotten to us yet... Edited March 3, 2010 by straightshooting woolfie 1

Yeah, I know it's a track program but I didn't know whether those with MA's already would be notified before those of us who don't have them. But this is all good information to know : ) Thank you!
foyo Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 As I know everyone is worried about applications, I wanted to post this message I received from OSU TODAY: "Thank you for contacting the Department of English regarding the status of your application. All applicants have not been notified of their application status at this time; the Admissions committee is making its final decisions this week so that the status of your application to the program will be updated by the Graduate Admissions office within the next couple of days." The emphasis is mine, but rest assured, everyone does NOT know yet about their status from Ohio State. Good luck to us all! woolfie 1

I heard a rumor that committees meet on Thursdays and people usually hear by Friday the result. But I also heard that all decisions have been made, so I wasn't sure what to believe. I think I'm going to believe the former, as an MFA at OSU told me that.
veronica Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 What's going on with this? Two people posted wait-list results, no email/status update for me though...taking it as a bad sign. soooo sad.
littlenell08 Posted March 7, 2010 Posted March 7, 2010 Hello everyone! New to the forum and pretty much just made an account to post this message here. I was one of the Wait List-ers for OSU (Hurrah!) and I've been in contact with the professor who sent me the notification. Apparently OSU received a record FOUR HUNDRED applications this year and that they're cutting their entering class size nearly in half. Thus, I'm incredibly honored to make the wait list (I was so shocked when I got the email I couldn't move for a good 5-10 minutes) and hope that things work out well for me in terms of getting in. I just wanted to post this for everyone's information: I know people are curious about this sort of thing. Congratulations to everyone who was accepted! To all those who are still waiting for good news: have heart! The universe will set things right.
littlenell08 Posted March 7, 2010 Posted March 7, 2010 (edited) whoops sorry Posted twice... Edited March 7, 2010 by littlenell08
stormydown Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 Are there any updates on this? I still haven't gotten any email and my application status is still AcadReview.
woolfie Posted March 16, 2010 Author Posted March 16, 2010 I received a rejection, in the mail a couple days ago and on the website a week ago. I think that everyone that was accepted has been notified.
foyo Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 Unfortunately, no one knows for sure until you hear yourself. Although others have been accepted/waitlisted/rejected, I've heard nothing (according to some that means I am high on the list so they are waiting for first round replies for those who have been accepted)--but who knows. Those who have seen rejected/accepted online, could someone copy and paste the link where you saw this information. I am afraid that I may be checking in the wrong place possibly since I have heard nothing. THANKS in advance!

Do you go to buckeye link (http://buckeyelink.osu.edu/futurestudents.html) and then click on application status, and then again, application status and it will say acadreview if there is no decision. Mine says "reviewed" and then you can click on more information where it tells me 'your application was not approved for admission.'
