bktv Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 (edited) So, is it just me, or has Minnesota been too quiet? Their prospective students weekend is March 25-26, so I can't imagine they'd go past this week for notifications. Anyone have news? Edited March 8, 2010 by bktv
intextrovert Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 No news here either. It is pretty crazy that it's March 7 and there hasn't been a peep from them on the results board. Of course that's the case for three of my schools. It's tough not knowing at this point - we've gotta make plans!
subzoo Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 I can't believe I'm posting here, since I have nothing to do with Minnesota, and you'll probably find this out soon enough, but there actually was a Minnesota waitlisting reported.
tortugita Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 Well, I just got wait-listed this morning so let's assume that notifications are going to start spilling out today. Cheers to the admits!
bktv Posted March 8, 2010 Author Posted March 8, 2010 Well, I just got wait-listed this morning so let's assume that notifications are going to start spilling out today. Cheers to the admits! Congrats on the waitlist. Still, it seems strange to see no acceptances, doesn't it?
tortugita Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 I agree...it's almost unfathomable that they would wait so long, especially given the visiting dates! After this notice today, I can only imagine that the admissions are going out within the next day or two.
Str2T Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 Haven't heard anything What is everybody's subfield? I'm thinking perhaps mine was too specific...
Benji7523 Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 I'm anxious to hear news, but not particularly surprised we haven't heard anything yet. I'm actually still waiting on 5 schools. I know for sure Arizona State and Purdue were waiting until at least March 7th at the earliest, so I'm assuming other schools are the same. My guess is we'll hear this week or next. My subfield is Medieval Literature (concentration in Middle English, specifically Langland, if I had to choose), but I'm also interested in the Medievalism of the Victorian period (and Victorian Children's Literature).

Score for Victorian Children's Literature!!! That's pretty much my subfield, as well as Women's Studies, gender/sexuality and queer theory. Though they all just sort of mesh into one fabulous pile of interesting.

speedracer Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 (edited) It seems so strange to see waitlists before acceptances (or even rejections)! Acceptances are usually the first to go. I'm holding out hope that it's not just those who've already been accepted are not using thegradcafe! Edited March 8, 2010 by speedracer

I'm holding out hope that it's not just those who've already been accepted are not using thegradcafe! I agree, seems a little odd. But Loyola did the same thing this year, so I'm holding out hope that no acceptances have gone out yet. I've got my fingers crossed because I really like their program, it's one of my top choices.
bktv Posted March 9, 2010 Author Posted March 9, 2010 Someone posted that they were rejected by website. But, the only MN status checker that I know of is the "Apply Yourself." And, when I login there, it just says: "application complete." Anyone want to volunteer to look at their application?

I don't think there's another web site to check, I'm pretty sure "Apply Yourself" is the only one that UMN uses.

Thanks for checking. Maybe they are updating in batches, or maybe the post was a mistake. I'd accept my fate if only a couple of acceptances were posted.
Musili Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 I checked mine. Nothing. Note: I am a likely rejection, so this probably means that all rejections have not gone out, either. I proposed a course of study that involved both nonfiction writing (MFA) AND the study of American Christianity in Literature (PhD), and I was rejected from the MFA program. So while it would be a very pleasant surprise to be accepted into the PhD program (and not something I'd rule out at all), I am very much in doubt of it. When I spoke to the department at the beginning of February they said acceptances and wait lists would go out first, and THEN rejections. But they also said the acceptances would go out March 1 or so, and the rejections by March 10, so maybe the plan changed.

I hope it's not true about acceptances having gone out already, but it seems like we'd have seen at least one posted on the results page. I mean, UMN is a pretty popular program. I suppose it's possible though if they are taking very few applicants this year. Sigh. I'll be waiting for my rejection...

Yeah, the longer this goes, the likelier it seems that they have already sent out acceptances. I would have expected acceptances to have gone out before waitlists, or at least at the same time. It may be that no one posting on Grad Cafe was admitted—as unlikely as that is.
lady_coffee Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 (edited) My Apply Yourself page status simply reads: "Graduate School Final Review." Which is deliciously vague. Hopefully they'll be updating the website soon... Edited March 9, 2010 by lady_coffee
hadunc Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 My Apply Yourself page status simply reads: "Graduate School Final Review." Which is deliciously vague. Hopefully they'll be updating the website soon... That sounds somewhat promising. If some still say "sent to program" and others are in "final review" I would imagine they must still be reviewing, right?
hadunc Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 Well my status on Apply Yourself changed over to "Graduate School Final Review" today as well. The suspense is killing me!
intextrovert Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 Mine also says "Graduate School Final Review." I'm thinking that's not a good sign...but who knows.
