Sydryx Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 Desiduous, It seemed that some of us first-time apply'er were having PINs assigned by the NSERC system, while some of us were not. How were your results?
UTgradst Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 I got my results today, through the school of graduate studies, here in alberta.. official notification should be arriving in a week or so, they said. What is all the fuss with the PINs? Did you get acceptance? If yes, congratulations! Don't take PINs that serious now. We should wait to conclude anything.
blankslate Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 I never got any kind of application confirmation email (or pin for that matter). I'm a little worried.
Sydryx Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 I never got any kind of application confirmation email (or pin for that matter). I'm a little worried. Did you apply directly to NSERC or through your school? If it was directly through NSERC, I'd be a little worried because they seem to send out confirmations. However, if it was through you're school I wouldn't worry too much about it. I applied in Oct, and just received my PIN yesterday. Log on to the NSERC site and go under "Manage User Profile". Is there any mention of a PIN there?

I didn't get a PIN it just says: NSERC PIN (if known) And a blank text box. =/
Sydryx Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 I wouldn't worry too much. No one is even sure if the PIN means anything or its just a fluke that some people have it.
blankslate Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 Guess I shouldn't have stabbed my eye out there.
Sydryx Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 You're probably right, but a proposal on reattaching it would likely do quite well in a future NSERC competition.
desiduous Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 My results were positive. I've applied for NSERC funding in the past, so I've always had a PIN, as far as I know..
uwGradStudent Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 My results were positive. I've applied for NSERC funding in the past, so I've always had a PIN, as far as I know.. Congrats desiduous! jsmandur Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 just checked my mailbox !! nothing "uwGradStudent": heard anything from GSO ??
blankslate Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 Talked to Graduate Studies and they said they can't release the decision information. God why do people still insist on postal mail? Same with Harvard... I now officially have a grudge against Harvard and NSERC.
cardinal Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 God why do people still insist on postal mail? Yeah. Furthermore, why do they insist on online applications that must be submitted physically?! Maybe NSERC wants to keep Canada Post busy.
wlugrad Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 Hi Guys, Im from Wilfrid Laurier University, Waterloo. Just got off the phone with my graduate coordinators and they already release the list of NSERC PGS CGS on the internal website Just thought you guys should know. Good luck to you all!!

itsAnewStart Posted March 24, 2010 Author Posted March 24, 2010 Exactly. Even OGS results can be checked online. CIHR too. Yeah. Furthermore, why do they insist on online applications that must be submitted physically?! Maybe NSERC wants to keep Canada Post busy.
smunoz Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 (edited) Guys from Ottawa?? what are your status? Hey guys, I have been following these posts for the last couple of days. Good news: here in Ottawa, I got my letter from NSERC today! It is for a CGS-D, which I have trade for a PGS because I am headed to the US; this means more money for somebody else though! Good luck everyone! Edited March 24, 2010 by smunoz
