isma93
Hello everyone! I'm new here :) I signed up to check if there's anyone out there who applied for the 2018 NATO internship program. I applied in May and still haven't heard back. I hold a Master degree form LSE in London, and multiple internship experiences with the UN in NYC and with the European Commission in Brussels (Blue Book Traineeship). I'm now interning at OSCE Mission in Kosovo, in Pristina, and I will be here for the next 6 months. NATO recruiterds dn't know I am in Kosovo, because at the time of the application I didn't have the internship offer yet. I have close friends interning at NATO at the moment, and they told me the recruitment process is often slow, so I should not worry yet. Also, I haven't received any refusal email yet. Anyone out there still waiting? And what are the chances I will get it? Thanks! Cheers, Isma
thirdway-er
I did apply to the same program and did not get any e-mails yet. They announced on their webpage that the recruitment process is already done. That means we are not selected as they informed they would not be any rejection e-mails for those who are not qualified. Sorry.
isma93
Where did you read they're done with the selection procedure? I cannot find it! Thank you
isma93
In the emails I got after applying they said they will inform of the selction outcome also people who are not shortlisted. And my friends who applied last session confirmed: one of them was selected and of course he was notified, but another friend was not successful and they informed her via email anyways (dear candidate, you have not been selected etc...). Even on the NATO website, they say they will notify candidates who have not been shortlisted (https://www.nato.int/cps/en/natolive/72041.htm, see table at the end of the page). Polo07
Good afternoon everyone, I just signed up as well to be part of this discussion. I just checked the timeline again ( thanks to Isma93 for the link) and I think, that they have made some changes to it When I applied in early May, I remember that the timeline stated that shortlisted candidates would be notified between May and June 2018. However, checking the website right now, the timeline states that candidates will be notified between June/July. I am not 100% sure, and would love to hear everyone's feedback on this, but I think that the timeline was updated. Being a former intern of an international organization, I remember the bureaucratic nightmare of getting internships approved. Furthermore, the NATO summit is right around the corner and staff is probably focused on that. So I think we still have a chance.

I got my first 2 email rejections an hour ago, as many others. I know some other people got interviews today as well, so the process is very much underway. I applied to so many posts I hope I will get at least one! ? I also see changes in my applications: some of them show recent dates, like 1 July or end of June, while others are stuck on May. I think this means I’m being considered for some positions but for others the choice has already been made - and it’s not me. Any other news or interpretations of what might be happening? Thank you!!! Isma
Polo07
Hey! Yeah the other thread seems full of people that got answers today. So it seems that they want to move forward with this quickly. I only applied to one position and I am a first time applicant. I submitted my application in early May - the status just changed today and is now indicating early June as the most recent date (Exactly 1 month after my intitial application). I do not give up hope, but I do recognize that this is a highly competetive application process and that there are many people applying that are as or even more qualified as I am. In addition, early June is quite a long time ago for this. The fact that they had to "postpone" the timeline though could lead to two things: Either they already have shortlisted and interviewed most of the candidates and are now just looking through the rest of the applications to get it over with, or they are really really late on this and just started reviewing people. I just remembered that the review process included two steps. The first one whether our applications are actually legit and we are allowed to even participate in this program, and the second one that is the actual review of our application. So I think that the updated dates just indicate the completion of step 1. In your case Isma, that would mean that they just sent over some of your applications to the actual department (e.g the one that says July 1) We should not forget that each department reviews the applciations in their own pace. However, they will wait until every department is roughly on the same page until they complete the recruiting process. @isma93 - are the rejections that you received for the applications that had a May or June date? Best, Polo07 The only rejections I got are from a batch of applications that were stuck on dates in May. The rest of the applications has been updated from beginning of June to 1 July, and I still haven’t had any email notification about that batch. I hope this means someone accessed my applications recently and I’m still under consideration! ?

Sorry to hear that One of my applications to PAD jumped to the top 10 minutes ago, with update status 9 July 2018 and label "on hold". And now I just got the email asking for interview! Super nervous, scheduling my interview now!! I have no idea what they'll ask, it's my first time with NATO
Polo07
As I said in the other thread, congratulations @isma93 I think it is only a 10 minute interview. I would advise on reading up a bit on the two programmes that we mentioned in the job description ( DEEP and Building Integrity). I mentioned more about that in the other thread. mariaed
Has anyone else received automated rejections from the internships (the deadline was the 17th of March)? Me and my friends are surprised as we expected to only hear back in June or July.
Nedret
I have received some of those. I was surprised as well; it's too quick. Do you think it's because we weren't eligible or is the competition is higher than before? Edited March 20, 2019 by Nedret
loupott
I already got a rejection e-mail for one of the positions as well. I thought it would be at least a month before we started hearing back about any of them.

I think the competition is really high this year and they just have basicly scanned the applications to eleminate most of them. They rejected 4 of my 5 applications today, it hurts a bit. Riri16
Which positions did everyone apply for? I was rejected for 2/5 automatically.
loupott
I applied to four - disarmament, Euro-Atlantic division, and the 2 gender-related ones. I was rejected for Euro-Atlantic almost immediately but haven't received any additional rejection e-mails as of yet. Admittedly, Euro-Atlantic I had the least relevant experience and it was my weakest application. Idk, guess I'll just wait and see what happens. alex127
I was notified of one rejection by email. One of my other applications shows a recent update and I can still withdraw it, I think this means that it passed the first screening... however, I have two others with a recent update but I can't withdraw them anymore, do you think it means that they have been rejected? I didn't receive any email confirming the rejection of these two... Edited March 27, 2019 by alex127
