Will this help me get in? (justify GPA)

Question

Posted

I have applied to the New School and Pratt Institute in New York. While they do not have any minimum required GPA, I feel anxious because my GPA from under grad is VERY low (1.6...). I wonder if it would help if I sent them a mail with my upper secondary grades, where I have around 3.7/4.0 GPA, to indicate that I possess the ability of performing on top, or will this rather make me seem desperate and have a negative impact on my application? Note that this mail will be sent a couple of week after my application was submitted.

Thank you!

I'm not sure what upper secondary grades are, but it's usually not a great idea to submit things the application didn't ask for. The best thing to do, if you haven't submitted the applications yet, is to try and address the low GPA in your personal statement as well as see if your recommenders can also mention something about the low GPA not being a good indicator of your academic abilities.

If you have already submitted your applications, I'm not sure what else can be done.
