krinklecat Posted January 10, 2019 Posted January 10, 2019 Thought I'd get a thread going on the current application season for those applying to Texas schools. Feel free to share any related information, thoughts, and questions - but I mostly want to find out what you have to say about the following: 1. Which school(s) are you applying to and why? 2. Have you visited the programs yet and what did you learn? 3. If things don't work out as planned, what is your plan B?
natalee Posted January 10, 2019 Posted January 10, 2019 I applied to TWU on-campus, UNT, and UT-Dallas. I tried to visit over the break but they were all closed. I haven't really picked a school yet so I can't say what my plan B is yet haha. I have lots of plan Bs! I'd love to hear more about these schools.
emilymstar Posted January 11, 2019 Posted January 11, 2019 Hi! I'm applying to UH (which is where I'm doing my undergrad), UTD, UTHSC San Antonio, and UNT. I haven't visited any programs, money is super tight and I work a lot so I'm waiting to make my visits to places where I actually get in haha. But going to UH, I have some general knowledge about the program. Our facility isn't fantastic, it's pretty old and isolated on campus but we have all the technology we need and I've grown to appreciate it over time! Also I love the faculty here. I've been an RA for a graduate professor who specializes in AAC and Aphasia and it has been an amazing experience to work with her. A lot of the undergrad professors also teach graduate classes and they're all so knowledgable and really care about their students. The only thing I will say is that one of my professors, who I generally like very much, missed a deadline for two of my programs for my LOR which was very frustrating. It's actually kind of screwing over my UNT application, as they told me without the materials being submitted on time I am "up a creek" (pretty rude thing to say if you ask me but whatever). My plan B... I'm not sure if I want to work for a year and apply again, or get a teacher's certification and try to go into Special Ed. But those are my two options as of right now. I really hope I get in though!

If you look online at TWU’s website for communication disorders, there should be a sign up for campus tours. See if one of those dates will work for you and check back often, as they add dates as they come available. I’ve been accepted to the distance program for Cycle 10. They told us last night in our informational webinar that next week Cycle 9 is taking comps and classes are starting up on Monday...they are super busy because not only do they have the undergraduates, on-campus graduate students, but approx 200 distance grad students now to take care of. It’s a bit hectic there. But I would recommend signing up for one of the Friday tours!
