Theevidentevaluator Posted February 4, 2019 Posted February 4, 2019 (edited) I am going to start another one of these types of threads for Korbel. I submitted my Master of International Studies application on December 1st after getting a lot of email from Denver saying that they would waive my application fee if I applied by the 2nd. I assumed that because of this eagerness for early applications that they would be sending out rolling decisions, despite the January 23rd priority deadline. I now assume that they assess all applications in one round (and I think I saw a decision notification date somewhere on the website but I can't find it now). However, my DU application was the first I submitted, and it feels strange to be waiting on it for long when I've already been accepted to another school whose application I submitted later. Anyway, that was just a drawn-out way of saying that I would like to know where all of you are in the application process. Have you received a decision? Are you interviewing for the Sie Fellowship? Have you heard anything about how DU assesses prospective students' applications? Edited February 4, 2019 by Theevidentevaluator spelling mistake
Theevidentevaluator Posted February 4, 2019 Author Posted February 4, 2019 I just received a reply email from Korbel about the notification date - it's the first week of March (again, according to the past GradCafe threads)
Spurs Posted February 21, 2019 Posted February 21, 2019 Received my decision today! Accepted into the International Development program!
Theevidentevaluator Posted February 21, 2019 Author Posted February 21, 2019 Congrats @Spurs! Do you know when we will receive financial aid packages? Also received my acceptance yesterday, but for the International Studies program!

MoynihanBreakerBurkina Posted February 22, 2019 Posted February 22, 2019 Can those of you who’ve been accepted comment on your stats please ? Also, any word on Sié?

The financial aid information was included in my acceptance letter. Oh that's odd. I did receive a merit scholarship that was detailed in my acceptance letter but no info on unsubsidized loans, federal work study, etc. I contacted DU's Financial Aid Office and they said I would be able to see my award soon, but I checked my PioneerWeb account and it's not there.
Theevidentevaluator Posted February 22, 2019 Author Posted February 22, 2019 (edited) I was accepted into the International Studies program and received a $25,000 Founder's Recognition Scholarship (I'm sure this is just a fancy name for a scholarship of a certain denomination from their general award money but I will happily put it on my CV now). Stats: Undergrad GPA: 3.67 Undergrad Degree: BA in Intl. Studies from American University GRE Scores: 158 V 153 Q 4.0 AW (These scores are the weakest part of my application but I think they are still around or above Korbel's average scores) Work Experience: 4.5 years combined internships and postgrad work, one internship with the State Department, one internship with a U.S. Representative, one internship with the Executive Office of New York State (governor's office), and 3 years postgrad as a State Department contractor. Other Skills: Tableau, STATA, and Excel proficiency. Intermediate Mandarin, intermediate French, and basic Danish proficiency Edited February 22, 2019 by Theevidentevaluator

MoynihanBreakerBurkina Posted February 22, 2019 Posted February 22, 2019 (edited) I was admitted with a $25000/year scholarship. Edited February 22, 2019 by BeninianBeninois
cowsgomoo Posted March 4, 2019 Posted March 4, 2019 (edited) I was admitted to the public policy program with an offer for $30k per year and an invitation to interview for Sie. Undergrad GPA: 3.3 Undergrad Degree: BA political science (English minor), BA international studies (philosophy minor) GRE Scores: 162 V 152 Q 5.0 AW Work Experience: 2 years on Capitol Hill, 2 years in international development, 1.5 years at a public policy think tank, and internships with the Department of State and my home state legislature while in undergrad Edited March 4, 2019 by cowsgomoo
Theevidentevaluator Posted March 12, 2019 Author Posted March 12, 2019 Sie interviewees ( @cowsgomoo et al.): Hear anything back from the Center yet about the Fellowship? I was told by the Director that Sie awardees would be notified some time this week.

Theevidentevaluator Posted March 14, 2019 Author Posted March 14, 2019 It's a no for me for the Sie Fellowship.
HBLB Posted March 15, 2019 Posted March 15, 2019 (edited) I was admitted to Korbel MA in international Studies with 15k a year in funding. I'm currently weighing the Korbel MA vs Pittsburgh MA in Public and International Affairs (Intelligence and Security Studies) and UCSD MPP(Security Policy), while I like Korbel, its cost is giving me some significant reservations.Congrats to all who were accepted and received funding, the Sie Fellowhsip seems insanely hard to get. It seems hard to justify the cost of these degrees, given the lack of funding and surefire job prospects. After all top 25 IR schools are nowhere near their MBA or STEM equivalents when it comes to salary and job placement. Any thoughts on school decision, Korbel job prospects, and reputation would be welcome. Good luck to everyone and maybe I will see some of you in the Fall. Edited March 15, 2019 by HBLB
