Reputation of Cornell Stats

Recommended Posts

I was recently accepted to Cornell's statistics PhD program. The program is relatively small and seems mainly focused on machine-learning/high-dimensional data analysis. What is the overall reputation of the department? Do they have other areas of expertise? Are their graduates competitive for tenure-track jobs at decent stats departments?

They're a very good department, I'd say their US News ranking is pretty accurate. Look at some of their job placements from 2015 on. They're pretty amazing.  They're not even all listed - for instance, Laura Tupper is also a professor at Williams, arguably the best liberal arts college in the country.

Hi! First off, congratulations! I was also accepted to Cornell via email but was wondering if your status changed on your portal yet. My portal seems to be unchanged, while people on the grad cafe results page say that their status was updated to "rejected" without any email.

My statust for "accepted" also was not changed on the portal.

Wait, I don't think I was clear in the above comment. Sorry if this is super dumb, but does your status say that you are accepted on the Cornell ApplyWeb portal? I got an email of admission from the chair but my status on the portal is not updated to "accepted". It's probably not a big deal but hmm.. I should probably email the department about this right?
