Doppio Con Panna Posted February 28, 2019 Posted February 28, 2019 (edited) Hi everyone, Has anyone / does anyone know of someone who has been accepted from an alternate spot (did not interview in person) for a phd or psyd program? Essentially I have heard some folks get Skype / Phone interviews after in-person interviews were already conducted when the faculty's other choices did not work out. This seems really rare, just wondering how rare. Thanks! Edited February 28, 2019 by Doppio Con Panna 1|]010ls10o 1

Some schools "waitlist" or "alternate" all students who interview so they have a good pool of secondary applicants to choose from. I don't think anyone on here would know of such a scenario ever having happened (at least at a reputable program)

But this is often pretty early in the interview season (i.e., someone was horribly disappointing in person on the actual interview day so they end up going for number two). I don't think this happens late in the season anymore. But those are the instances I've heard of
ItPhBeLikeThatSometimes Posted March 4, 2019 Posted March 4, 2019 I know this happened last year in March at my undergrad institution. The PI is really well respected, it just didn't work out with any of the people they interviewed.
