Hi everyone, I am currently having the hardest time choosing between NYU and Northeastern's SLP programs. Ultimately I know it will be up to me to make the choice, but I would genuinely appreciate any advice or information you could provide on either of the programs. With the deposit deadline quickly approaching I would love to hear about others experiences picking or attending either school. Or even on how you decided between two very similar programs. Thank you!

I was deciding between BU and Northeastern and made a pros and cons list of both and figured I would share my pros and cons for Northeastern! This will probably be just a hot mess of thoughts so I hope you don't mind this brain dump that is about to occur!

I thought the clinic at Northeastern was really nice and updated and the amount of supplies/resources they had for therapy was incredible! I also got good vibes when I was there! I felt like the students were both very smart but also laid back and friendly; didn't feel competitive at all! They also have a good mix of research and non research opportunities and didn't feel like they were pushing one or the other. The research they have currently going on is incredible but at no point did I feel like I had to be involved in it. The location/campus feel was also great. I liked that it was still a college campus and you took a few classes outside the Rehab building; made it feel less isolated and more involved with others on campus. Also the external placements they have available are great and they usually get a good majority of the competitive spots! The faculty were also wicked nice and approachable and the students agreed that the professors are always open to talking with students! Overall I just felt like I really fit in when I went but if you haven't visited before it can be hard to understand that!

The only cons I found were more personal ones. They don't have an aphasia group like BU has but I was told if I am interested in that they can set up opportunities to go to the aphasia group at Spaulding. I also didn't love the fact that it is a "campus feel" which means you may have to walk to other buildings for your classes (but I decided that isn't that important -I could use some fresh air and change of scenery throughout my day)

Sorry if this isn't cohesive at all! I have actually chosen Northeastern and sent in my deposit last night!

@MC15 Thank you so much for taking the time to go into detail! That was actually really helpful and I completely get what you mean about feeling like it's a good fit. Both times I visited I also felt "good vibes." I'm still making my decision but it's nice to hear someone else's perspectives and congrats on picking Northeastern!
