I've been admitted to both ITP ($10K/y scholarship) and IDM (no scholarship) at NYU.

As far as I researched, ITP's tuition costs almost twice as much as IDM's.

I heard the two programs are very similar in what they teach and students can take classes interchangeably and they even share the same building and classrooms.

When applying, ITP was my first choice mainly because it is more recognized and has a larger network of alumni but I'm not sure if these factors would outweigh the tuition difference.

Which one should I choose? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

When applying to graduate school, I considered both of these options.

Here are the main differences that I found:

ITP is in the Tisch School of the Arts, while IDM is in the Tandon school.

Therefore ITP focuses more on the intersection of art and technology in an experimental playground.

Meanwhile IDM students will have a research focus that they pursue.

ITP is graded pass/fail and focuses more on the creation of projects for art shows, while IDM is graded in a more typical graduate program.

ITP has a much larger cohort of students and is 60 credits, while IDM is 30 credits.

In ITP you would take several foundation courses in the first semester such as in physical computing, computational media, video, animation, and sound.

In IDM you would enroll in creative coding, ideation and prototyping, media law, and theories and cultural impact of media and technology.

Hope this helps!
