Megan955 Posted October 23, 2019 Posted October 23, 2019 Hi there, I'm applying for doctorates in psychology this year. I would like to explore diagnosis (specifically ASD). Do I need a doctorate in clinical psychology to diagnose? Or can I diagnose in the future with a PhD in psychology? Thanks.
1 PsyDuck90 Posted October 23, 2019 Posted October 23, 2019 (edited) Only those with a clinical psychology doctorate (PhD or PsyD) can apply for licensure and be psychologists. Other psych doctorates, like developmental, social, etc. are not clinical degrees, and you can not see clients and diagnose. You can also get a clinical licensure at the master's level in counseling or social work. Edited October 23, 2019 by PsyDGrad90 Added information
