blorp2.0 Posted November 22, 2019 Posted November 22, 2019 I recently took the GRE and got a 159 quant, which is about 75th percentile overall and 25th percentile among math candidates. My cumulative GPA is low, but the highest ranked school I’m applying to is ranked ~75th and my math grades are good/great. Should I bother retaking the GRE? And in general, do programs care particularly much about the regular part of the GRE? Is it mostly used to weed out applicants?
BL250604 Posted November 22, 2019 Posted November 22, 2019 It is primarily a cutoff tool used to weed out a first round of applicants. That being said, it can also be used to compare two applicants who have very similar profiles. It would be helpful to see your full profile and list of programs you are considering to give you a holistic answer. blorp2.0 1
blorp2.0 Posted November 22, 2019 Author Posted November 22, 2019 Thanks! I’ll make a profile evaluation post later tonight
BL250604 Posted November 22, 2019 Posted November 22, 2019 sounds good, feel free to tag me in it. I usually don't check in too much on the weekends. blorp2.0 1
