Although sound moral judgment is an important characteristic of an effective leader, it is not as important as a leader’s ability to maintain the respect of his or her peers.

Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the statement and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider ways in which the statement might or might not hold true and explain how these considerations shape your position.

Essay:

Today society is what our leaders wanted it to be. Each action they take, every decision they make, puts a mark in history. So in an era of socio-technical evolution, the qualities of leaders require much attention more than anytime before. Sound moral judgment is a relatively more important characteristic of an effective leader than the ability to maintain peers' respect.

Leadership is not an inherent quality. It can rather be defined as a personality type which is socially approved for its consistent portrayal of social well-wishing characteristic. Simplifying words, leadership is all about maintaining a favourable image approved by the group being led. This image is really important for a leader to safeguard because if once breached, followers will no longer put faith in his actions or judgement. Sound moral judgement is something that every follower expects from their leader regardless of their philosophical backgrounds. If a leader becomes more careful about maintaining his/her peers' respect, at one point his followers will eventually notice his ill judgement in case of peers. He will then no longer be trusted as an effective leader.

No one wants to be a leader if they don't really want to stay effective in that position. So, a leader to maintain his position effectively must prioritize on sound moral judgement over peers.

I would go with 3.5. The argument you made is logically coherent and the language is generally ok. However, several factors are in the way of a higher score:

Your essay is barely 2 paragraphs long (217 words). There is not even the scope of suitable transitions with such length.

The language is overly complex at times. Yet, it is not error-free and there are at least a couple of really glaring errors.  the extraneous much for example. This gives me the vibe that the author has intentionally included jargon but at the cost of content.

No examples are provided. No other counterpoints are addressed. You also need more main points.

Don't be disheartened. I've seen many admits with 3.5. However, aim for 4.

Question-

Although sound moral judgment is an important characteristic of an effective leader, it is not as important as a leader’s ability to maintain the respect of his or her peers.

Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the statement and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider ways in which the statement might or might not hold true and explain how these considerations shape your position.

My Response-

Although both respect for peers and sound moral judgement are important characteristics of a good leader, respect for peers has a slight upper-edge in deciding a good leader.

A good leader must always engage himself completely in the activities of the team. He/She must ensure in maintaining the united collaboration within the team and equally value the thoughts, ideas and opinions of every peer. He/She must encourage innovative idea and try to relate to every team members point of view. He/She must connect to the emotion of the peers in order to understand their expectations and both personal and professional goals and try his best to align the professional goals of his peers with their personal objectives. If a peer commits a mistake, a good leader must understand the reason behind the mistake commited by the concerned person instead of making hasty, uninformed decisions which might have an impact on the individual peer's career or affect the unity of the team. It is posible that lack of proper training/experience, lack of alternate better decisions or peer's personal problems might have resulted in the mistake.

However, it is equally important the sound moral judgements are made to ensure proper functionality of the team. For example, it is important to protect intellectual property, security and confidential data of the project and strict action is taken if they are compromised.

Thus, to conclude a good leader not only respect his/her peers but also ensures sound moral judgements.

Essay:
The statement mentions the two characteristics--sound moral judgment and one's ability to maintain the respect of peers. While acknowledging that the two characteristics are important, the statement puts a higher rank of the former, which is to maintain one's respect, above the latter, which is to have a sound moral judgment. I mostly agree with the statement. However, I will argue that the two are very much correlated, like two sides of the same coin. In other words, one's moral judgment will greatly affect one's reputation and respect.  We will therefore look at the two characteristics in more detail.

First, a leader's moral judgment is in itself an ability to make a good decision on behalf of the people he or she is leading. For instance, in biblical history, King Solomon was known as a wise leader. When Solomon was faced with a problem of two women claiming that a child boy is hers, he must have the ability to discern and decide the best outcome. He decided to test the two women by commanding the child to be divided into two. It turned out that the woman who was the real mother gave up the right to be with the child and interjected the command for the child to be slaughter into two. By this test, Solomon who was a leader of these two women made a revealing trial and able to judge the situation. Consequently, this sound moral judgment drew attention and respect from other people and leaders. By this example, I am showing that the first characteristic is tied to the second characteristic.

The second characteristic, the ability to maintain respect from one's peers, is theoretically can be done over time through a pattern of sound moral judgment. We see this in real leaders. One easily loses his or her reputation as an effective leader when committing immoral behaviors or judgments. A well-known political leader, such as Al Franken, who is charged with sexual misconduct loses his fame in an instant. The allegation of sexual harassment questions the moral judgment of a leader and consequently jeopardizes his reputation and respect from his or her peers.

The examples given above show that the two important leadership characteristics work tandemly. They are not working antithetically nor concessively. It is impossible to earn the respect of one's peers without one's sound moral judgment. Therefore the argument is not accurately stated as the two are equally important and are two sides of the same coin.
