zhangxy Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 what are the top med chem phd programs in the us in terms of faculty productivity and quality of journals? UMN College of Pharmacy, Carston R. Wagner group is a good choice
drumms9980 Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 Why do you want a med chem PhD instead of an organic synthesis PhD? I work for big pharma and I'm applying back to grad school now. I can tell you for med chem positions no one with a med chem PhD would be considered. If you're looking to do something different after then I supose this doesn't apply. Good luck!! drumms9980 1
Eigen Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 I agree wholeheartedly with the previous poster. Decide what you want to do, and then think whether a Med Chem degree would be good for it. All of the researchers/groups that actively publish in Med Chem journals have degrees either in Biochemistry or Organic Chemistry. If you're interested in the pharmcology/pharmacokinetics side, go for one of those degrees at a pharmacy school. If you're interested in designing new drugs, then you really want a traditional organic synth PhD.
