Question

Posted

Hello, I received email from the university that I am on the finalist of phd course application and must have a videoconference with faculties.

However, the interviewer informed me that he would like to ask "about what the tenure-track job market looks like."

It is a kind of abstract question for me. Does it mean that he would ask about my plan after my graduation?

Given this information, I think you will be asked about your awareness of the job market and what else you have mind after graduation. I've heard more and more faculty accepting students only if they do not plan to only apply to the academic job market. Of course, this varies by field.

I'm sure they're interested in your plans after graduation. Many students apply to PhD programs because they're motivated to become a professor and this is becoming increasingly competitive/difficult, so I'm sure they'll want to know more about why you want to get a PhD.
