Hi all,

I was wondering if gender and race comes into any serious consideration when applying to some of the more competitive programs. I was looking at the elementary education programs in the Curry school at UVA and TC at Columbia. I am male and of Korean decent, and seeing as how I don't hear of many applicants (or teachers, for that matter) of my background, I would have an edge. Or my fear is, that being male would inhibit my chances of getting in to Elementary Education programs.

I am fairly certain that all programs value diversity, yet attempt to admit the highest quality candidates, regardless of gender, race, orientation, national origin, creed, etc.

Agreed, though it seems some programs, Harvard for example, more actively seek it than others.

true. I guess I see it more as an "it can't hurt you" kind of thing, but it shouldn't necesarily be seen as an automatic leg up.
