byteit
Hi all, I was wondering if gender and race comes into any serious consideration when applying to some of the more competitive programs. I was looking at the elementary education programs in the Curry school at UVA and TC at Columbia. I am male and of Korean decent, and seeing as how I don't hear of many applicants (or teachers, for that matter) of my background, I would have an edge. Or my fear is, that being male would inhibit my chances of getting in to Elementary Education programs.
rainbowworrier
I am fairly certain that all programs value diversity, yet attempt to admit the highest quality candidates, regardless of gender, race, orientation, national origin, creed, etc.

I guess I see it more as an "it can't hurt you" kind of thing, but it shouldn't necesarily be seen as an automatic leg up.
