REU or work in a lab?

So I turned down a neuroscience REU because I thought I could work in two neuroimaging labs this summer. Well one of the labs changed their mind (ugh!) so I'll just be working in one.

I turned down the REU because the research wasn't really what I wanted to do. The lab I would work is much more compatible and I feel like at the lab I would be treated better than just a person needed to fill the REU position.

I lost money turning down the REU because the lab isn't funded... I hope I made a good decision.

Anyone else been in a similar situation?
