Yes. I have heard that often CIHR is the last to send out notices. Once a few years ago notices came out in May. I do not think that will be the case this year.

They also didn't post an anticipated notice date this year, but looking back at the last 5 years, they all anticipated that notices would be sent out sometime between April 15-18. Anyone who applied previously know what date they send out notices last year? If it comes today it will likely be soon. Good luck everyone

I wonder does anyone know if it is possible to upgrade from PGS to CGS? I applied for PGS, but will be going to Canadian school. Is there any chance to upgrade?

Thanks a lot.

Did you get a PGS offer from CIHR this year? If you get an offer for PGS they may let you change it to CGS. Not sure though.

I do not think you can change it if it is PGS without applying again to either NSERC and ranking higher or to CIHR (difference selection committees).

Thank you very much for the reply. Yes, I just know that I get the PGS offer. I have emailed NSERC today about upgrading from PGS to CGS. So they will only do it when a CGS awardee choose to go to a non-Canadian school and get downgraded to PGS?

I think the PGS and CGS is one application, right? I find the following in the NSERC pgs website.

https://www.nserc-crsng.gc.ca/students-etudiants/pg-cs/bellandpostgrad-belletsuperieures_eng.asp

Applications to the PGS D program will automatically be considered for the Alexander Graham Bell Canada Graduate Scholarship – Doctoral (CGS D) award, which is offered to the top-ranked applicants; the next tier of meritorious applicants will be offered a PGS D award.

Are you very positive that PGS can not be upgraded to CGS? Thank you very much for your answer.

Oh I see what you mean. Yes, sounds like if someone who got CGSD declines/downgrades, you can possibly move up depending on the ranking in your selection committee of your NSERC application.

Did you apply to both CIHR and NSERC then? have you heard anything from CIHR?

I am reading the NSERC CGS-D portion in https://www.nserc-crsng.gc.ca/Students-Etudiants/PG-CS/index_eng.asp

The Canada Graduate Scholarships—Doctoral (CGS D) program is a federal program of scholarships awarded through national competitions by the granting agencies: the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC).

So it means that CGS-D is awarded by one of three agencies (CIHR NSERC SSHRC) depending on whether your filed of study is "head science", "Engineering" or "Humanities", right?

I have emailed NSERC and have not heard back from them. I think the only possible way to upgrade is that a CGS-D awardee get downgraded because he is not going to Canadian school. Have you applied for CGS-D or PGS-D before?

It depends on your ranking in your committee. This will have be through NSERC as that's where you applied. It also depends on how you ranked in your committee as only the top applicants can qualify for CGSD. This is my first year applying.

Usually I think they're released around the same time - but usually NSERC CGSD is notified by snail mail (and because of coronavirus, that aint happening this year). So they switched everything online and I think theyre trying to deal with that.

From my knowledge, NSERC people are still waiting to hear back as to whether or not they were awarded :(

This is so painful. Does anyone know when the reviews and rankings were done? Are we just basically waiting on IT? Did the CIHR masters award results come out yet?

No idea about reviews and rankings. The CIHR masters awards came out on April 15th at 5am PST (posted to their portal). They got an an email back in mid March saying their release date of results would be delayed from April 1 to 15th. Someone in my lab received this and this is why I know. They have not indicated any delays for CGSD. All they say is April :( I cannot even focus on studying for my exam right now.

Hang in there! We'll hear back sooner or later -- regardless of whatever the response may be, focus on crushing exam season! You got this :)

I think CIHR post doc awards come out on the 23rd... I wonder if we'll hear at the same time?

It says they got postponed to June 1 on the CIHR website. So maybe we will hear back then?

how many times are we allowed to apply? I am currently in my third year (it's my first time applying, I transferred from masters) and my supervisor is notorious for keeping students for at least 6-7 years.... I worry that if I get it next year I will be forced to stay 3 more years and that would be a 7 year PhD.... I was hoping this would be my ticket out the door at the 6 year mark.
