shakespear Posted April 15, 2020 Posted April 15, 2020 (edited) I applied to some US PhD programs in physics and got accepted to one of them. I am currently doing a Masters at a local university. I applied using my unofficial transcripts for my undergraduate degree and my Masters degree. I finished all the Masters courses. However, I still have to write my Masters thesis. However, the problem is that I do not find a suitable advisor for my Masters. I am currently working on a research project by myself though. However, I face a lot of interruptions due to COVID-19 situation. My question is: What will happen if I am not able to finish my Masters thesis come Fall? In this case. I would not able to finish my Masters before august. How likely will the school rescind their offer based on this? Edited April 15, 2020 by shakespear

I think this is something to work out with the school and hope they are understanding (they should be).
shakespear Posted April 16, 2020 Author Posted April 16, 2020 (edited) Does this mean that in normal circumstances, the school might rescind my offer if I am unable to finish my thesis in time? I can not even register for the thesis course this spring due to the advisor issue. Is it possible to ask for someone to supervise me even if he does not know what I am doing and if he is not an expert in my area? Just to get my Masters done assuming I can do the work all by myself. Richelieu Posted April 16, 2020 Posted April 16, 2020 It is indeed possible, one of the schools that admitted me to their PhD program recently rescinded all the offers and put the program into hiatus.
