American Studies at Columbia

Hi, I'm new to the site. I was wondering if anyone else has applied to the MA program in American Studies at Columbia. I have and have not yet heard anything back. Thanks!

yeah! I applied and have also heard nothing. I emailed them last week and they still had not made decisions at that time.

Is this a good program? I have heard its not so good for those wanting to pursue a PhD afterwards...is this true? What is the story with this MA?

In an email exchange with one of the directors of the program, I was informed that many students pursue the MA in American Studies with the intention of pursuing a Ph.D., and that many students go on to get a Ph.D. at Columbia and many other universities around the country.

And from the program's website:

"Some students enter the program to fill gaps in their undergraduate training or strengthen their expertise so as to support the arduous research and disciplinary focus required for future pursuit of the Ph.D. degree. The program also appeals to recent college graduates with cross-departmental interests, who use the interdisciplinary approach to increase their knowledge in a number of areas prior to pursuing advanced study in one specific discipline."
