The story is breaking in California. The CSU system will be "closed" for Fall 2020 with courses offered on line.

I'm guessing the UCs will follow as well. Kind of sucks, but people's health is more important.

I would not put it beyond the realm of possibility that after additional number crunching the decision will be modified for the CSU system and that will flow to the pending decision for the UC system. (I am thinking that the projected impact on cancelled athletic seasons will be sobering and the argument will be made that "We cannot afford to close UCX..." and resources for mass testing will be directed there.)

Hmm I guess that is true. I guess we can only wait and see. I reckon LA county will remain in shutdown mode until August, or at least that is what has been reported. There are already testing sites throughout LA county and we're opening some non-essential businesses this Friday... idk, wonder how this is gonna play out.

As the making of policy is a political process, you can make your voice heard if you have a dog in the fight. Otherwise, I think the restrictions are going to die by a tens of thousands of cuts--until the body count gets to the point where more people take COVID-19 seriously.

Thanks! I decided that I'm fucking doing it anyway. I think it will be a valuable learning opportunity in and of itself. I'm 99% sure I'm moving, too, because if I tried to move in the Winter... I don't think so. I'm thinking that even if in-person instruction isn't available, fellow students could work out weekly discussion groups at someone's home with proper safety precautions.

By being close to campus, you will be able to meet with professors in person (with the appropriate amount of social distancing). If you're able to make the most of such opportunities, you will be getting more out of your education than if you had stayed where you are now.

Also, by being in the area, you will have an advantage when it comes to finding places to live and maybe even work.

Yup, I agree! Also - three hour time difference!
