o_g Posted June 23, 2020 Posted June 23, 2020 Hi all! I just scheduled my interview for the DOE scholarship (Bilingual SLP), and am looking for tips and any info from those who have gone through it before! Thank you
Dany_97 Posted June 29, 2020 Posted June 29, 2020 Hi!! Congratulations on the interview!! I also have an interview for this scholarship coming up and I am very nervous about what questions I’ll be asked. however I saw a post on here where someone talked about their interview from a few years back and they said that two people conducted the interview (one speaking English and one speaking in Spanish). They were asked to write an essay in Spanish because Spanish is their native language. They also said that they were asked general questions like why they chose this field, why do you deserve this scholarship and any speech sessions you observed. Stuff like that. Again, this is what I read on one of the posts on here. I know this isn’t a lot of info but hope this helps, good luck!!
speecheach Posted July 5, 2020 Posted July 5, 2020 Congratulations on your interview. Do you mind tell me where can I find the info for DOE application? I found one scholarship Bilingual Therapies and I am wondering if is the same. Thanks
Dany_97 Posted July 29, 2020 Posted July 29, 2020 Hi!! I went on the DOE website and you have to search up Jose P. Graduate Scholarship Program and you’ll find the information on it. the deadline, however, passed. But you can still look into it.
Dany_97 Posted August 29, 2020 Posted August 29, 2020 Hi!! i was told during the interview that I will be contacted during the last week of august in regards to whether I will receive the scholarship or not but I have not heard anything back and I’m starting to worry ?
CSDApplicant Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 Yes, I was told the the last week of August or maybe even the first week of September, but I thought maybe it would be sooner. Hopefully we hear something this week. Fingers crossed we get it!
CSDApplicant Posted September 14, 2020 Posted September 14, 2020 Still nothing. I wonder what's going on.
SLPtoBe91 Posted September 15, 2020 Posted September 15, 2020 Hey there, I'm also waiting to hear back from the D.O.E SLP scholarship. I reached out the an office member late August and all she said was there the decisions were not finalized and that I will be notified via email if I was accepted or rejected. I've recently began my graduate program and am anxiously waiting to hear back.
CSDApplicant Posted September 16, 2020 Posted September 16, 2020 Oh, interesting. Thanks for posting. I guess it's just taking longer than usual because of COVID. Well, I hope we get it! I'm anxious too. Hehe. Best!
Dany_97 Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 Same here, still waiting. other girls in my program reached out to the DOE and all they said was to wait till they make a decision. not even the academic advisors at my school know what’s going on. we are all assuming because of COVID and the reopening of the public schools that are keeping them busy right now. But I’m trying to not lose hope.
SLPtoBe91 Posted October 17, 2020 Posted October 17, 2020 Hi guys, its been another month and no word from the D.O.E. I spoke with a student mentor who received the scholarship last year ( Before Covid )and she said that the decisions were released in the middle of September! It seems like they're just delayed in general but at this point I'm not sure what to do with the Financial Aid office. For those who are waiting to hear back on the D.O.E's decision, are you taking out a loan in the mean time or paying out of pocket? I really hope we are able to find out ASAP!
CSDApplicant Posted October 19, 2020 Posted October 19, 2020 (edited) I know. I've just taken out loans. I think there is a funding issue because of COVID and the city budget crisis. Second years who received the scholarship last year are also still waiting for this year's scholarship, so they must not have the money or they are waiting for it from the city. Anyone else have any insight? Edited October 19, 2020 by CSDApplicant
Dany_97 Posted November 22, 2020 Posted November 22, 2020 Hi guys!! same here I took out loans and the majority of the students in my program had no choice but to do the same. We were all waiting to hear back from the DOE but there was no news about it.
CSDApplicant Posted December 5, 2020 Posted December 5, 2020 I heard from someone that their friend got the scholarship this year back in September. Does anyone know of anyone else getting the scholarship?
Dany_97 Posted December 12, 2020 Posted December 12, 2020 Wow! No one in my program ever received any update. One girl emailed the DOE two weeks ago asking them if there’s any news regarding whether she got it or not. And they said they haven’t chosen anyone yet and that they will let us know.
CSDApplicant Posted January 8, 2021 Posted January 8, 2021 Well, I think they are waiting for a bailout from the federal government, and, depending on how much money they receive, they will choose who gets the scholarship or not. I do know for sure though that at least one person received the scholarship this year, the people from last year got their money for this year, and one person was informed this summer that she did not receive the scholarship. So...we are all still being considered, I believe. There is hope since the Democrats will be in control.
Dany_97 Posted January 9, 2021 Posted January 9, 2021 Ooohh okay!! Thank you for the information, I will share this with my classmates.
sunnybunny9 Posted April 28, 2021 Posted April 28, 2021 Unfortunately after so long of waiting I received a rejection email today. They said they had to be selective due to fiscal restrictions. Do you guys think they were more eager to accept bilingual students over monolingual students?
Dany_97 Posted June 9, 2021 Posted June 9, 2021 Unfortunately I didn’t get the scholarship either and I applied as a bilingual applicant. It really does suck especially since I waited so long for a response.
am.22 Posted May 16, 2023 Posted May 16, 2023 Hi would anyone be able to tell me about their interview experience as a bilingual applicant? I have my interview soon :)
