Recommended Posts

Hi all! I just scheduled my interview for the DOE scholarship (Bilingual SLP), and am looking for tips and any info from those who have gone through it before! Thank you :)

Hi!! Congratulations on the interview!! I also have an interview for this scholarship coming up and I am very nervous about what questions I’ll be asked.
however I saw a post on here where someone talked about their interview from a few years back and they said that two people conducted the interview (one speaking English and one speaking in Spanish). They were asked to write an essay in Spanish because Spanish is their native language.
They also said that they were asked general questions like why they chose this field, why do you deserve this scholarship and any speech sessions you observed. Stuff like that.
Again, this is what I read on one of the posts on here. I know this isn’t a lot of info but hope this helps, good luck!!

Hey there, I'm also waiting to hear back from the D.O.E SLP scholarship. I reached out the an office member late August and all she said was there the decisions were not finalized and that I will be notified via email if I was accepted or rejected. I've recently began my graduate program and am anxiously waiting to hear back.

Same here, still waiting.
other girls in my program reached out to the DOE and all they said was to wait till they make a decision.
not even the academic advisors at my school know what’s going on. we are all assuming because of COVID and the reopening of the public schools that are keeping them busy right now. But I’m trying to not lose hope.

Hi guys, its been another month and no word from the D.O.E. I spoke with a student mentor who received the scholarship last year ( Before Covid :( )and she said that the decisions were released in the middle of September! It seems like they're just delayed in general but at this point I'm not sure what to do with the Financial Aid office. For those who are waiting to hear back on the D.O.E's decision, are you taking out a loan in the mean time or paying out of pocket?

I really hope we are able to find out ASAP!

I know. I've just taken out loans. I think there is a funding issue because of COVID and the city budget crisis. Second years who received the scholarship last year are also still waiting for this year's scholarship, so they must not have the money or they are waiting for it from the city. Anyone else have any insight?

Well, I think they are waiting for a bailout from the federal government, and, depending on how much money they receive, they will choose who gets the scholarship or not. I do know for sure though that at least one person received the scholarship this year, the people from last year got their money for this year, and one person was informed this summer that she did not receive the scholarship. So...we are all still being considered, I believe. There is hope since the Democrats will be in control.
