generaliroh Posted August 9, 2020 Posted August 9, 2020 Hi all, I’m currently a neuropsychology extern at a hospital and one of my patients passed away. I work with moderate/severe TBI and cancer patients, so I knew this would eventually happen. However, actually experiencing this now for the first time, it is hitting me harder than I thought. If anyone has experienced this and could provide any advice/resources, I would appreciate it. Or, if anyone has any advice to not let these situations weigh down on you over time, that would also be helpful. Thanks. SomeGreatNotion 1
PsycUndergrad Posted August 9, 2020 Posted August 9, 2020 I’m so sorry to hear that. This site is mostly applicants so, but there’s a psychology thread on the Student Doctor Network forum that has a lot of practicing psychologists on it. Maybe that could be a helpful resource for you. Best wishes!
PsyDuck90 Posted August 10, 2020 Posted August 10, 2020 I would strongly encourage you to talk to your supervisor about this. They should be able to help you navigate this difficult circumstance.
Psyche007 Posted August 22, 2020 Posted August 22, 2020 I realize some time has passed but I'm just seeing this now. I had a patient die while working as a counselor in a methadone clinic. I'm happy to be an informal resource, share my experience, or just listen. Feel free to DM.
