Peter Huynh
Hi everyone, I am planning on applying to statistics/biostatistics PhD programs for Fall 2021 matriculation. I am feeling a bit worry about my GRE score in verbal section and research experience. Please give me some advice where should I apply? Moreover, I wonder if I can take Introduce to Analysis or Advance Cal 1? Which one should be better? Student Type: International female Undergrad: Top 80 Undergrad (USNWR) Majors: Math Stat, minor Business Analytics GPA: 3.9 Math courses (A in each): Calc I-III, differential equations, linear algebra (B+), probability & statistics I-II, stochastic process (graduate level), math statistics I-II (graduate level), regression, design methods (graduate level), introduce to abstract, stats consulting, sampling (graduate level-Fall 2020), nonparametric (graduate level-Fall 2020), survival (graduate level-spring 2020), introduce to analysis or advance calculus 1 (Fall 2020), GRE: have not taken but Verbal will be under 150, Q >165 Research: Summer academic consulting at top 30 ranking stats university (did presentation), 1 undergraduate research Letters of Recommendation: average letter Schools: I am not sure where I should apply. I would appreciate any advice in classifying schools as target/reach/safety, or just any suggestions on where I might consider applying. Thanks so much! trynagetby
I'm not super sure as I'm applying to schools too. But I've been stalking this forum for 2 years now so I'll try to pass on my absorbed knowledge. As an international your math background is a little weak (depending on what "introduce to abstract" is. If it's Abstract Algebra and you got an A in it then I think you have a good shot at programs rated 30+ on us news like CU Boulder UVA etc. I'm not sure how big a difference Analysis vs Advanced Calc would be, I'd just take which one covers the subjects your interested in. Peter Huynh
Thank you for your response! I got an A for introduce to abstract and this is a proof course including introduce to analysis. I will try my best to also get an A for introduce analysis (proof calculus theorem... ) Good luck on your admission!!!!
