Hi everyone,

I'm applying to stats and biostats PhD programs this semester. How does it look if my letters of rec are from a tenured math professor (research advisor), a lecturer (took multiple advanced math courses with them), and my manager who works at a national laboratory? The first two will be very strong and the last will be reasonably strong, but I"m worried that I only have one letter from a full professor.

Thank you.

I think this is a fine mix if at least one of the lecturer and manager (preferably both) have a PhD in math or statistics.

I'd amend this and say any letter writer should at least have a PhD in a quantitative discipline (e.g., economics, physics, CS) and can attest to your mathematical ability. Prefer those who have PhDs in stats or math.
