hibernum
As the title should suggest, what I've done past research on is a bit different from where my current interests lie. Of course, all -- both past research and current interests -- fall within the bounds of the programs to which I am applying. Still, I want to have a consistent thread/theme throughout my SoP, and that seems difficult to do given this gap. Should I just pretend my current interests are essentially what I've already researched, in order to avoid this issue? Or should I work in my current interests, even though I haven't explored them much (and if so, how)? I am applying to master's programs in the UK with the hope of going on to do a PhD -- but that will be a separate application. Thanks!
ICDI777
I am on the same boat.. I am sooooo stuck because my current research interests are not relevant to what I have been working on in research. I have tried to write it but I always get stuck at connecting those. I always failed to explain how my research experience shape my current interest because they did not shape it at all. . . . . Should I even just change my current research interest to fit my "past" interest lol? oh man then I need to research programs/faculty again so it won't work ? I also really hope to get some advice on this issue.
Rafiki 005
Co-ask. I sincerely hope that someone would give an answer to this question
Psychif
I have the same issue. What I did was to indicate this misfit openly-as this will be apparent to the reviewers- and write that I can overcome any negativities resulted by this misfit by building on the knowledge from my experiences in different research fields. I do not know if that sounds problematic, but that's the only thing I could come up.
