AlexaLexalEx Posted January 30, 2021 Posted January 30, 2021 Hi all. I know this application cycle many PhD programs are not accepting new students. Could you guys share your opinion on how it will play out for master's program? I applied for the top US MA in regional studies East Asia programs. How competitive are these programs to begin with? Will it be more competitive due to less seating or even less competitive as less applicants this year. Please share your thoughts on this thread, it would be greatly appreciated! Best of luck to all!

Please share your thoughts on this thread, it would be greatly appreciated! tbh I really think it's mysterious. I'm not sure how competitive those programs were in the past years. But for this year round, the GRE was cancelled so that more students may apply; many school cancel the master or PhD programs on Liberal Arts; many students may cancel their application plan due to finance; many international students may cancel the plan due to political issues and the pandemic. I mean it's hard to say whether it would be easier or more difficult. What schools are you applying for?
AlexaLexalEx Posted January 31, 2021 Author Posted January 31, 2021 I applied to Harvard RSEA, Stanford CEAS, Yale CEAS, Oxford CCS and Columbia MARSEA. How about you? Yeah I agree. I also heard from people in the program that they are taking less students this year because number of last year's cohort took a gap year (which is unprecedented).
DDDDD Posted February 1, 2021 Posted February 1, 2021 Current RSEA student here. FYI around half of this year’s cohort deferred their enrollment to next year so I think the competition will be fierce (and funding will be less). AlexaLexalEx 1

Do you perhaps know what the acceptance rate was for the year you applied? On Peterson's, RSEA acceptance rate is 39% but it seems incorrectly high. I am just feeling very anxious waiting for the results to come out next month. Any information would tremendously help!

I'm not sure but on the website it says "In an average year, the program receives 180–200 applications from around the world; however, the typical entering A.M. cohort consists of 24–28 students." But this information is not really useful this year, I think, given the number of places available and the funding situation (which I have absolutely no idea). Good luck! AlexaLexalEx 1
