JustChill Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 I'm going to be starting a PhD program in the fall, and have been guaranteed a certain amount of funding per year. This is not contingent on whether or not I am appointed as a TA or some other position, even though that will certainly be the case. So, I'm wondering if anyone knows if there is a standard way in which these stipends are paid out? Do we get periodical checks, or do they give us lump sum for a whole semester? I know that this likely depends on the individual university and program, but I just want to hear some feedback from people who have personal experience with stipends.
DariaIRL Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 Here our stipends are paid every two weeks. 1st of the month through the 15th is paid on the 25th. The 16th through the end of the month is paid on the 10th.
diehtc0ke Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 There definitely isn't a standard. My stipend will be paid on the last day of each month and I have a friend who received a lump sum at the beginning of each semester.
Jae B. Posted May 13, 2010 Posted May 13, 2010 I'm pretty sure I'll get a lump sum payment each semester.
coyabean Posted May 13, 2010 Posted May 13, 2010 I get paid once a month but my friend is going to UNC and she gets a lump sum.
Bumblebee Posted May 13, 2010 Posted May 13, 2010 For what I heard about my school is that they pay on a monthly basis. The currents students I talked to during my campus visit told me so. But, as somebody has mentioned here, it depends on the school. Maybe you can ask current students.
socialpsych Posted May 13, 2010 Posted May 13, 2010 We get ours once a quarter. Clearly it varies -- ask at your school.
