Does anyone here know when our student loans will start being deferred because we'll be enrolled in school? I'm TECHNICALLY already enrolled after all! B)

YOu may want to move this to the The Bank forum but in my experience my loans were deferred once my financial aid package had been processed by the new program. That shows up in the federal student aid database. I didn't have to send proof or anything. But, I'm not with Sallie Mae. This is just for the standard Stafford. I'd call them ASAP and let them know you are enrolled.

I need to get my loans deferred too, but I just finished undergrad so I have until November before I would have to start paying anything anyway (so it's not as urgent). Should I just wait until I start grad school to worry about this at all? Coyabean, did you get any letter in the mail saying that you had been granted a deferral, or did you just stop getting bills or something?

They get deferred after you sign up for your classes and the university takes care of everything. So most likely you will have to keep paying until august

No letter or anything DJ, I just stopped getting a bill. Very nice, I know.

I learned last summer that the University of Georgia doesn't consider you "enrolled" until you're registered for classes. It would seem that many other schools use this same ruling. As for when you start deferring, if the school participates int he Clearing House, they send automatic reports of enrolled students and lenders reference this list monthly. My consolidation is through AES and they work through the CH. Since UGA is a participant, my name was included in the August 09 (I registered for class the first week of August) end of month report and my payments from September on forward are deferred.

Hmm, okay. I did enroll for classes already though--- about 3 weeks ago, actually. I'll probably contact my loan providers soon and figure out when the deferral date is.
