So I was accepted to a PhD program during the last cycle, but due to Covid, they weren't able to offer me funding. I turned down the offer, hoping to reapply and gain funding. I've been able to gain some research experience, and I'm spending my gap year to better my application. Of course I'm going to reach out to the program to ask after their funding situation as it compares to last cycle, but my question is, would I be looked down upon or would my application be more harshly judged because I previously turned down an offer of admission? Any insight you have would be greatly appreciated!
