I'm pretty annoyed with the fake results on the results page (i.e. Fake University and Jedi University). I wonder if this has happened in past years and if the moderators do something about it.

So according to the Results page, Penn started accepting/waitlisting around this time last year... eeee! I'm nervous! It seems a number of us applied this year, anyone else jumping out of their skin every time they get an email?

Yes! It's terrible. I get email on my phone, too, so I get a little anxious every time it buzzes (even, totally impractically, in the middle of the night...believe it or not, it never turns out to be Penn texting me at 3am on a Saturday).

I have my hopes up that this week will bring us some news, though. Fingers crossed for everyone.

So it seems like if you don't get a response from them in early February... you are more than likely rejected, right? I think in the results section, no one got accepted or waitlisted after that Feb 9th date last year. But who knows.

Yet the year before people were accepted in early March. It's like they know exactly how to drive us crazy!

In better news, starting this week last year there were results everyday for Art History so at least we'll have something to keep us busy. Good luck!

Hey everyone, it's my first post. I'm finding this site to be a needed wealth of much sought after information and at the same time finding so many more thing to freak out about than I had just an hour ago...

Anyway, I'm applying to Johns Hopkins, Emory, UVA and Texas for Classical Art History. What with results seemingly coming back so early, I'm now starting to worry that I've only heard from one of my schools, and not even a solid acceptance. I was invited to a recruitment weekend in Atlanta for interviews, but have not been invited for interviews elsewhere as of yet. I have a BA in Classics and Art History, a strong GPA and (what I think are) pretty good GRE scores. Has anyone else been to interviews? Heard from Hopkins or other state schools?

Has anyone heard from Columbia and NYU?

No, but I wasn't expecting to. If you look on the results board, it's completely normal to not hear anything from a school for humanities until end of February, even the middle of March. And anyway, no news is, generally speaking, good news - they want to reject you as soon as possible, so not hearing when other people have can mean that you're on the wait list, or a shortlist for acceptance.

Oh dear! It looks like Penn's beginning to trickle in. I applied but I've got nothing yet (except for a headache from staring at my computer screen). To those who have heard, is there any information you can share?

Penn has started notifications. I will not be able to focus on anything until I hear from them.

Me too. Last year, as per the results search, they accepted and waitlisted on a single day in February and then mainly rejected in March. So if not for today's posted rejection I would assume I hadn't gotten in, but they're clearly shaking it up a little. I don't want to upset anyone, but it would be wonderful if either poster could address the crowd. Did you receive personal contacts or form letters/emails? Was there any information about the size of the accepted class or the schedule of notification? Any information at all you could toss our way? I think I'd be grateful for any news at this point!

Ok, the Upenn accept and reject on the same day IS odd... but would they really split up acceptance notifications on different days, accepting some people on the 8th and some at a later date? In other words, is it safe to assume that if I didn't heard from them today, I'm awaiting either a rejection or waitlist?

I'd say at this point the only safe thing to do is throw our assumptions out the window. Stay hopeful, I guess... Or call them in a couple of days...?

how does one find out about upenn? checking your original app online like northwestern? email? phone? gahh!!

I would like to know what is happening with Penn. To see one acceptance and one rejection on the results page with no explanation...it's excruciating!

I posted the Penn acceptance.

Acceptance arrived via email from the DGS (with whom I had previously spoken). Normal admit letter, including funding, no details about the class. Only that admission was competitive, blah, blah, blah.

Field: modern

Congratulations on the UPenn admit!

perhaps overly optimistic, but I'm still hoping they'll place me on the waitlist...or something...

Anyway, great news and good luck with the rest of the application season!

I'm also still waiting to hear. I would normally assume that not hearing is bad news but since there is one acceptance and one rejection posted I'm not sure what to think.

I'm waiting to hear from Penn as well. I'm assuming the rejection came from someone who was in contact with their POI and got a personal email about not taking students this year or just not having enough space. It doesn't seem like they would send a single formal rejection this early. I don't really that much hope for myself, especially since I'm a modern applicant as well, but I wouldn't count anyone out yet.

Good luck everyone!

Since I don't have a "safety school", I put a lot of hope into a Penn acceptance. I met with the DGS and four faculty members AND one of my LORs was written by someone (who is now working on a publication with the DGS) who was a Postdoctoral Fellow in their department several years ago. I feel like I put all my eggs into one little elite basket and it didn't pan out. ARRGGGGHHHHH!!!

Penn is driving me crazy! (I'm surprised there are so many of us clamoring to hear/get in, but it reinforces my decision to make it my top choice.) I really want to email my POI - whom I've emailed several times and met in person - but I'm so worried that I would be obtrusive.

Could be the straw on the camel's back to decide against me?

I'd really like to know if I stand a chance of acceptance, but if my email netted a rejection in reply, I might spend the rest of my life fretting over whether it was my fault or not.

Now is the time to calm down. Don't think about what you did. Don't preemptively knock yourself while you're down either. / :

Do something that is distracting. I've been calming myself down with 1000 piece puzzle while listening to music. Once you really get into it, it's hard to really acknowledge anything else. You will know soon enough - come what may.

I was just accepted to an amazing school - one of my top choices for sure, if not my top choice. Full funding plus stipend for 5 years. But it's the first place I've heard back from. Am I crazy for wanting to wait until I hear from the other places to accept - or should I just accept now? My other three schools are a longshot and two state schools that most likely won't fund me. I feel like I am over thinking this. How long is it acceptable to wait to accept an offer?
