ryelvertron Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 Hey! I was wondering how many of you are applying to masters programs vs Ph.D programs, and why you decided to go with whichever you decided to go with? Also, I was wondering if any of you are applying to Ph.D programs from Masters programs, and why you made the decision to do a masters initially, and what you think of that choice now.
anthropologygeek Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 Some programs require masters then phd some you get masters on the way to phd then some like chemistry don't require a masters at all.
CSJ Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 I am applying to both PhD and masters programs. Part of it is due to the competitive nature of PhD programs but also some great schools only have masters programs. Ultimately I want to just have as many options as possible to choose from.
JGunn3 Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 I applied only to masters programs, though my ultimate goal is a Phd. I did this because I felt my GRE scores were two low to be competitive in a PhD program, and I had more time to bolster my resume for the masters deadline than I did for the PhD.
digits2006 Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 I would suggest that you apply to both. I applied to both and was wait listed at 3 PhD programs. I ended up going to a Masters program, but I hope to have better chances at those three schools when I get done with my masters.
