digitality Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 Hi all. I posted this on the communications board, too, but I am also looking in English/interdisciplinary studies. Do you have any thoughts about strong digital rhetoric/media-focused Ph.D. programs? digitality 1

Off the top of my head--perhaps look more closely at the programs of NC State, Arizona State (who just picked up James Paul Gee), U Wisconsin, Michigan and Michigan State, Carnegie Mellon....WashU? If I find the resolve to post a more fitting and helpful reply, I may jump back in here. Maybe the above will serve as decent leads in the meantime.

I definitely second Carnegie Mellon. WashU has an interdisciplinary Digital Humanities graduate certificate (Data Science in the Humanities), Bowling Green State University's rhetoric program is pretty digital-intensive. Florida State has a History of Text Technologies program, as well as a rhetoric program. I'd maybe look into Miami University (of Ohio). Maybe Berkeley--if you're into rhetoric as understood as cultural theory.
Historiogaffe Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 The PhD program at Waterloo (ON) has a pretty good placement rate, and their various MA programs give you an idea of what they're into: as well as literary, therre's in Rhetoric and Communication Design, and Experimental Digital Media.
digitality Posted December 11, 2010 Author Posted December 11, 2010 Thanks for all the suggestions. I ended up with a nice list of 14 (see sig.). digitality 1
murkyama Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 You've applied to 14 programs? I have applied to many of the same programs, and I am curious about the addition of Louisville to your list. I've understood that the program does not have a strong digital rhetoric background. What is your interest?
digitality Posted December 11, 2010 Author Posted December 11, 2010 Yep, 14. It was fun times and cheap... not. My interests are in animal studies and new media.
